Jarl Berg
Well, hey there! I am Jarl and I live/grew up in Eugene, Oregon. I started skiing at one of our local hills around the age of 4(so about 44 years ago) and started on nordic gear as my feet were too small for alpine boots at the time. I skied off and on until I hit my teen years when I pretty much lived on the ski bus every weekend and where my deep love for sliding on snow was born. Personally, I am a father and a husband who thankfully has a family that loves skiing nearly as much as I do. You will find us in RV row each weekend at our local hill or traveling around our state finding new areas, new runs, and new beers by the fire pit at the lodge.
My grandfather started a ski shop in 1955 and I spent 17 years of my life working there myself but learned that I loved skiing too much to be stuck in a building 6-7 days a week all winter..in the words of the great Warren Miller “Freedom is located somewhere outside the box.”. Throughout my teen years, I went to many ski demos and still go to them each year while also helping put many on myself. Born and raised on Alpine gear, learned to telemark ski in 1992(ran a telemark festival/demo for 13 years) and forced myself to learn how to snowboard somewhere in the middle of all that and found out that was a pretty fun way to slide on snow as well. I sat on the board of Ski Oregon for many years, sat on the board of a local ski manufacturer for a couple of years, and have helped build a ski factory at our local hill. Also a fun fact, I am a proud member of the Sons of Norway lodge and the Vice President of our local Free Bikes 4 Kidz chapter.
I really look forward to helping you find the best gear for you so that you have the best chance of loving the feeling of sliding on snow that I have. There is nothing better than the look on someone's face when they find the right gear that gives them the perfect turn on their favorite run… honestly, nothing. I love questions, I love hearing your story, I love hearing your concerns and but I promise you, I am not clairvoyant so the more you can tell me, the better I can help you get what you need. Thanks for letting me virtually hold your hand through this process, you will be glad you did.
Think Snow!
