I grew up in the South where BBQ isn't just something you do, but a way of life. I always loved the food, but wasn't the person who cooked. All of that changed when I was living in Memphis, TN. I began to expand my grilling from the basics of burgers, hot dogs, steaks, etc, to more slow-smoking meats like boston butts, ribs, chickens, turkeys, etc. It took some time, but after a few years I started entering competitions where I was often in the top 10. I moved to Louisiana a few years ago, and while the BBQ isn't the same as it was in Memphis, Louisiana has great flavors to include and take the food to the next level.
I have cooked with almost every style of grill or smoker out there. Each has its benefits, but my current setup is a pellet smoker. I like the ease of use in managing my kids, as well as sneaking out to play golf while I smoke a brisket!
