About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the putter, which I purchased with my own money in March of 2022.

My take

The Taylormade Spider Tour Putter is a great combination of softness off the face, smooth roll, and a nice center of gravity. The large face allows you to square up to your target, find the line, and sink the putt. The heavier club head adds to a smooth and even backswing, resulting in a nice and steady speed.

What I was looking for

I was looking for a putter that had a bigger club head (mallet style). Wanted something heavy, with a line on the top to help with alignment. I have always liked the Spider design, but did not know exactly which model I wanted.

Why I chose this club

The smoothness of the roll when the ball comes off the club face; the less-than $200 price point; and the look of the putter, is what drove me to make this purchase. I found it very easy to align, and I was sinking putts immediately when I tested it at the in-store putting area. I considered a newer model of the Spider putter, but chose the Spider Tour due to the price point. I felt I got the same results for a fraction of the cost.

What I love about it

  • Face Feel: The Spider Tour has a nice bounce and produces a smooth roll and perfect speed.
  • Alignment: The putter is easy to align with its square-type structure. The alignment line on the top assists to aim the putter with the ball line.
  • Length: 35 inches is great for my height as I am over 6 feet tall.
  • Grip Feel: The grip feels nice and tacky (sticky); thick, but not overly thick.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The matte black finish makes it look nice and clean. It’s easy on the eyes.
  • Head cover: The head cover that comes with it looks good. I also appreciate the option to switch out the head cover with other cool options on the market to make your bag look great.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Forgiveness: I don’t see much forgiveness for straight putts. You need to hit the ball dead center.
  • Weight: The club is heavier than a blade putter — but a good heavy for great CG (Center of Gravity) in terms of performance and feel of the club on impact. I will say though that the weight could be more shifted to the front of the face. Weight in the back sometimes has me leaning the club too much.

Best Putt or Round with this Putter

No particular putt comes into mind. But, my first round with the Taylormade Spider Tour was at Stevens Park GC in Dallas, Tx., and my putts seemed to be falling more consistently. I was playing with my brother, and he even said, “Man, you do putt a whole lot better with that new putter”. So even my peers saw a difference in play with the Spider putter.

Value for the money vs. other options

The sub-$200 price point makes the putter well worth it for a mallet-style putter. Great for all skill levels, the Spider Tour putter brings instant results at a great price. This price point compared to other Spider models is low and very reasonable. Depending on the brand any nice putter can range from $200-$600.

Final verdict

What I found with my new Spider Tour putter was instant results. From a smoother and more even putter stroke, to lowering strokes on the green, this putter has brought new life to my game near and around the pin.
