About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the putter, which I purchased with my own money in July of 2022.
My take
The Odyssey White Hot OG #7 CH Putter is a face-balanced, mallet-style putter that is extremely forgiving and easy to use — as with all Odyssey putters in my opinion — which makes it optimal for all skill levels and ages. It is extremely easy to line up and the fang-type wings on the back facilitate picking up the golf ball without bending over.

How it performs
What I was looking for
I currently use a Scotty Cameron Phantom X-5 34”. I was looking for a faster ball speed off the face of the putter. In short, I wanted the impact to carry more energy, which I assumed would happen with the hot insert the OG provides. My current putter is a milled face.
Batman - looks like it is ready to suck your blood
Why I didn’t choose this club
Even though it is a face-balanced putter, I found that it tended to want to open and close instead of going straight back and straight through; this may be due to the hosel neck. Usually I play hosel necks, yet this putter has a lot of offset in that regard. This keeps my hands forward through impact, which is helpful if I want to avoid scooping the putt at impact, but I personally do not need that. For this reason — and for my game — I did not think it made a good match.
Signature white hot face that makes Odyssey unique
What I love about it
- Face Feel: Super soft; the signature feel of the Odyssey due to the White Hot insert is impossible to fully describe without feeling it oneself.
- Forgiveness: Very forgiving, the toe and heel off center hits did not affect the putt much.
- Weight: Balanced and heavy enough for my taste. Being a pendulum putter, the heavier it is, the easier it is to stay on line.
- Alignment: With the fangs, the alignment is super simple. Very easy to put the putter flat on the ground at address.
- Length: 35 inches. Putters come in 32–36-inch lengths, which means it is important to properly let one’s arms hang according to his height. Being 6’0” with average-length arms, this length was not ideal for me, as I generally use a 34 inch.
- Customization: Options for weighting the head. Weights are a major issue that any serious golfer will need; different green speeds require different configurations.
- Other: The fang design makes it a good club for golfers suffering from lower back or leg pain who want to avoid bending over.
SWOOPING IN FOR THE KILL
Issues I’ve encountered
- Forgiveness: Due to the extra forgiveness, there is a lack of precision that at my level is not something I can benefit from. For a newer player, however, this may be a very attractive feature.
- Grip Feel: Sturdy feel; the grip is tacky, but a bit small. It could use a larger grip but my hands are also larger than average.
- Length: A little too long given my body. Yet, even at a smaller length, I would not have changed my mind about how the putter operates.
- Aesthetic Appeal:Well, maybe when Blade the Vampire hunter was popular…
Such a sleek design
Best Putt or Round with this Putter
I set up a few 10-foot puts which I was able to easily pull off. Then my friend RE also gave it a try and was impressed with how easily it let him maneuver the ball. Being a player with a handicap of 10, the forgiveness helped him hit a straighter shot.
Value for the money vs. other options
Of course this is an Odyssey putter. I know what to expect from the feel and the way it will interact with the ball. It is an OG — original gangster — after all. It is mostly incomparable to any other brand’s putter due to the unique feel the White Hot insert provides. After all, Odyssey is a Callaway brand, which means their distinguished technology that they cover their balls with is the same one as the White Hot. Compared to my current Scotty Cameron, the feel at impact is too soft. I like a more traditional, metal-face feedback. It is in the low to mid range of putters, so for the price it is very good. Most comparable to the Taylormade Hydroblast.
Final verdict
Very fine feeling putter. The reason I did not buy it is because, for me, it did not hold the pendulum — in other words, swing straight back and straight through, without an arc, from inside to square. Though I highly recommend this as a putter to try — mostly for its unique look — should one be looking for an Odyssey putter.
