About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the club, which I purchased with my own money in June of 2022.

My take

In my search for a better feel at impact, I was really impressed by the Srixon ZX Fairway Wood. Not only is the feel at impact great, but the launch angle is also favorable to the eye, which has increased my consistency off of the tee. Off the fairway, this has become my preferred club on par 5s when I am trying to attack the green. This is a great club for any mid-to-low handicappers looking for a great feel at impact without compromising playability and forgiveness.

What I was looking for

I was seeking a 5-wood that can replace my 3 hybrid, specifically one with a mid-high launch that I can utilize at around 240-250 yards, especially on par 5s. I wanted a club where I can be more consistent in a draw flight or even a straight ball where I can attack greens and use off the tee on short par 4s.

Why I chose this club

I decided to buy this club blindly without trying it. I was drawn to this because of Srixon’s rebound frame technology which recoils really well and gives the club a second layer of energy flexibility that feels really good at impact.

I have an older Callaway Big Bertha 3 Hybrid which I have used for several years and I wanted to try a different brand than the typical Callaway, Titleist, or Taylormade. I did not consider any other options.

What I love about it

  • Distance: The distance is comparable to all other major brands. The shallow face really helps with the energy transfer at impact which unleashes great distance.
  • Feel: The feel at impact is comparable to big brands like Callaway’s A.I. Jailbreak technology. The Srixon ZX series has a rebound frame that acts as a second recoil for increased energy transfer. Once hit in the center of the face, it feels very powerful and the distance will prove that.
  • Shaft Feel: The shaft has a great feel. It is not a stock shaft as I prefer a 70g stiff. The shaft is a great shaft for mid-launch which is what I was searching for.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The compact shape of the wood head provides a great visual. It has a shallow face as well which, for me, is very pleasing at address.
  • Grip Feel: I put a custom grip on it, which was the Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound midsize grip. The midsize grip gives me a more controlled grip and decreases my miss to the right.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Forgiveness: The rebound frame is built for center hits to be rewarded. Not having a direct center hit at impact will therefore drastically decrease distance and results.
  • Sound: It does not have a very exciting sound. It is on the dull side which might be a negative for someone searching for sound at impact.
  • Workability: It has a draw bias at center hit impact which limits the workability if you are looking for a different ball flight.
  • Adjustability: It comes at a standard 18 degrees with no tool or options to increase or decrease loft, or put a draw/fade bias.

Best shot with this club

I had my best shot while I was playing at Stone Mountain golf club in Atlanta, GA. This course is very tight so I knew that I could not pull out the driver at every hole and I had to play disciplined golf. At the 7th or 8th hole, I was on a bogey train and knew I needed a good tee shot to set me up to turn my round around. The hole was a dog leg left with OB on the left and right, and bunkers aligning the right side of the fairway. The hole was set up to lure people into hitting the driver because if it goes over 280 yards you clear all the trouble. I knew I did not want to hit the driver so I pulled out my 5 wood knowing it was 265 yards to reach the bunkers. I hit a beautiful draw around the corner, setting myself up with a 100-yard approach shot. I put it to five feet and made my birdie turn my round around.

Value for the money vs. other options

If anyone is looking for a consistent feel at impact, the Srixon ZX fairway wood is definitely a great club to try out. The sound is not the best as it leans towards the dull side but the rebound technology really creates a great feel at impact. The Callaway Jailbreak technology on the Epic Fairway Woods creates a great feel along with a beautiful sound at impact which is more preferred for me.

Final verdict

This club has unlocked a true baby draw mid-high launch for me in which I have become much more consistent from 240-250 yards out. This has improved my game on a par 5 where I can comfortably attack the green with a high ball flight and have it land softly. For any golfer looking for consistency and great speed at impact, this is a great fairway wood.
