About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the club set, which I purchased with my own money in February 2022.

My take

The 2022 Stealth Iron Set from TaylorMade is a great new forgiving iron with amazing distance designed to elevate the mid- to high-handicap golfer’s game. With a new look and design, these irons will also appeal to more players who might not have been a fan of the SIM max or SIM2 max iron sets.

How it performs

What I was looking for

I always want to hit the newest clubs that come out, and I couldn’t wait to try out the Stealth irons and compare them to the SIM max and SIM2 max irons. I am always looking for the upgrades or changes companies make to their new lines so I can recommend the best equipment to my customers. Forgiving, distance, and game improvement irons are usually the aspects that appeal most to golfers, and the Stealth is definitely targeting those customers.

Why I chose this club

TaylorMade has always designed forgiving and distance-packed iron sets. Starting back a few years ago with the M series line and then moving into the SIM lines, their irons are always so forgiving with a huge sweet spot on the club and packed with max distance (strong lofts and high launch). The Stealth iron definitely continues that long tradition. I was looking at trying out these irons because of the changes TaylorMade made from the SIM line.

What I love about it

  • Distance: This is definitely a distance-packed iron. Strong lofts (compared to my Srixon irons) really allowed me to hit these clubs way longer than I can do with any other club.
  • Forgiveness: Super forgiving. Even with mishits, I didn’t lose distance or accuracy. This is facilitated through the perfect amount of offset and a huge sweet spot.
  • Feel: For a cast club, the feel was outstanding — softer than I had expected. Nothing beats a forged iron because the soft feel is incredible, but I’ll admit, these come very close to a forged iron feel.
  • Shaft Feel: The standard KBS MMT 85 shaft was a perfect swing weight for me. Around 90 grams. Could be too light for faster swing speeds out there but for me it is a perfect weight. It produces such a high launch which is what I love.
  • Shaft Performance: These regular flex shafts performed great. I had such high launch and carry distance. It was amazing.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: A definite upgrade aesthetically from the SIM max and SIM2 max iron sets. These irons have a Cap Back design and they look great. To my eye, they weren’t as bulky or chunky looking as the SIM max and SIM2 max iron sets.
  • Grip Feel: The standard TaylorMade worked for me. Soft enough but “tacky” enough for good grip on all shots.
  • Launch Angle: High, long, amazing carry — the launch angle generated from these irons is fantastic.
  • Other: I only wish I was able to borrow a full set and use these irons on the course.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Workability: While TaylorMade has really upgraded the design and performance from the SIM2 max irons to these Stealth irons, I still have trouble working these irons into a fade. They are definitely designed to help the golfer needing to fight a slice and promote more of a draw.
  • Lofts: Super strong lofts on these irons in the standard set. I found I could hit the attack wedge (AW) 120 yards or so. That is really long for me. I’m not sure how I could fill the gap between that club and my 56-degree sand wedge.

Best shot with this club

First day trying out these irons on the driving range was rainy and cold and I thought every shot performed great. I didn’t notice a loss of distance or accuracy with the tough, rainy, and cold conditions.

Value for the money vs. other options

These irons are worth the price! Just under $1100 for a full set of steel-shafted irons is a great deal in today’s market. Add on the performance and playability of these irons, and they are definitely worth the money. From what I’ve seen in just a few opportunities to hit these irons, they will hold up very well for years to come. Callaway makes the Rogue irons which are comparable in price, but the Stealths performed better for me in distance, power, looks, and feel.

Final verdict

The 2022 Stealth iron set is a fantastic forgiving and distance-packed iron set designed for the mid- to high-handicap golfer looking to hit more greens and lower their scores. For those looking for an iron that is easy to launch, carries longer on approach shots, and gains more distance, look no further than the Stealth iron set. They look great, feel great, and will really make for an enjoyable day on the links while taking one’s game to the next level.
