Complete golf club sets come in many different price ranges and packages. Some come in super affordable ranges, under $450 or so, and are perfect for the beginner golfer on a tight budget. However, for those wanting to buy something that may be a little higher quality or come from a more well-known brand, there are complete sets that will meet that need.

Each set comes with various golf clubs, offering some combination of a driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and a putter. But what makes these sets different from one another? Why is there such a fluctuation in prices between them? That depends on the manufacturing brand and what they want to include, what they deem necessary, and what you are looking for in the set itself.

Questions to Ask and Answers to Consider

Before diving into the club sets, it is important to come in with a game plan and an idea of what all you are looking for. Here are some questions you need to ask as you look at the complete golf sets available.

1. What type of bag are you looking for?

This is a semi-important question when thinking about your golf equipment, but if you are most likely only going to ride or have a pull cart for when you walk, a cart bag will suit your needs just fine. These bags are generally a little bulkier and have more space for storing balls, tees, and all the other accessories golfers like to have on them during rounds. However, suppose you are going to walk a bunch. In that case, a stand bag is nice because you can basically guarantee that your bag will stay standing throughout your shot without worrying about metal clattering in the middle of your swing!

2. What clubs are included?

Most of these sets come with a combination of golf clubs intended to suit the vast majority of needs for all golf shots required on a course. However, some may leave you a little short. The first thing you want to check is whether or not your set is going to come with a sand wedge. Many lower-budget complete sets only tend to give the buyer a pitching wedge (PW), which is fine but limits your short game. Then, check what collection of irons you are getting. Many times, it will be something like a 5 iron or maybe even a 6 iron through PW, which is fine! Will it have a 3 wood or just a 5 wood? Hybrids? What loft is the driver? All of these are important to know!

3. What material are the clubs made of?

This includes the shafts of the clubs. Will they all be graphite shafted, or will you get irons with stainless steel shafts? Will your set of irons be made of titanium or some other form of metal, and will they have an oversized club head to increase forgiveness? All of these are important to know as you move forward with a purchase.

The 4 Best Golf Club Set Choices

Three great options are available to consumers from big-name brands such as Cleveland, TaylorMade, and Cobra, as well as one from a smaller manufacturer looking to disrupt the golf industry—Stix. Let's look at some of the best golf club sets and see which may be best for what you believe will suit your needs.

1. Cleveland Launcher XL Men’s Complete Set

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo line is a great set of clubs. This complete set gives the golfer access to most of the options in the line; however, they may still need to buy a sand wedge. The club set itself, however, has all the technology infused into it that a golfer would need to buy this set and be happy for multiple years to come. These clubs are premium options and would just need to be supplemented with a lob or sand wedge to add versatility.

  • This set is a top-of-the-line set that includes everything you need to start your golfing journey.
  • A driver, 3 wood, 4 hybrid, 6-PW, and AW irons are all included in the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo series.
  • Cleveland HB Soft #11 Single Bend mallet putter, 34”.
  • These clubs are forgiving and durable, allowing the golfer to play for a long time without needing to upgrade for a while.
  • High Moment of Inertia (MOI) and Low Center of Gravity (COG) create great striking situations for the beginning and intermediate golfer by moving the weight to the perimeter and shaping the heads with a nice cavity design.

2. TaylorMade RBZ SpeedLite 13-Piece Complete Set

This set is excellent for someone looking for a top brand name without spending $3,000 on all of the brand's premium options. The golfer will still get the technology they need to get started and play their best rounds of golf ever.

  • This top-tier set offers a graphite-shafted set or graphite-shafted woods and steel-shafted irons for a lower cost.
  • Also offered in Senior and Regular flex, this set has all the clubs one would need to be successful in the golf world and have all options accessible to them in the game.
    • Driver, 3 and 5 woods, 4 and 5 hybrids, 6-PW, SW, and a putter
  • These clubs are lightweight to help increase swing speed and get the clubhead rocketing through the ball.
  • Low COG helps the golfer get the ball up in the air quickly, adding to the precision of every shot.
  • Cart bag has all the pockets and storage needed for everything required for a great day on the links.
  • Also available in a slightly cheaper 11-piece set, although you lose the 5 wood and 5 hybrid with this choice.

3. Cobra Fly-XL Complete Set

Cobra leads the way by trying to upend expectations, which is why they have gone for a nice offset to combat slices while not charging a four-digit price for this set. Everything in this set is designed to help the new and intermediate golfer excel and quickly make their scores dip below the three-digit line.

  • If you are looking for a nice, mid-tier complete set that will give you everything you need, look no further than this set.
  • Set includes a driver, 3 and 5 wood, 4 and 5 hybrid, 6-SW, and a blade putter.
  • This set is a little more draw-biased to help offset a slice and is both super forgiving to increase accuracy and provide easy distance for the golfer
  • The cart bag has plenty of storage for everything needed for a round.
  • Available in Regular, Senior, and Stiff flex.

4. Stix Complete 14 Club Complete Set

Stix is a brand that makes the game more accessible to all golfers. This set has all the clubs needed to play every shot that the golfer sees on TV (not that they need to) and comes with a stand bag to promote the notion that you may decide to walk instead of driving a cart for your round.

  • A great, upper mid-range category set.
  • Included stand bag contains a driver, 3 and 5 wood, 4 hybrid, 5-PW, 52 degree, 56 degree, and 60 degree, and a putter, all with headcovers.
  • This set has an all black-finish, making it look sleek and sexy in graphite shafts and dark clubheads.
  • Available in Regular, Stiff, and Ladies/Senior flex shafts.
  • Forgiving set with every club one needs to hit all the shots and have the versatility they desire on the course.
  • This set can be fitted to the golfer, with options that add or subtract up to an inch to better fit different height ranges.

Why Spend the Money?

All of these sets will be an upgrade over the cheaper sets with price points under $700, such as the Callaway Strata set. However, if you do not need a bag and are okay with a uniflex shaft, the Callaway Edge set is also a good choice. By spending a little extra money, you get clubs that are technology infused in case you mishit the ball with the club on the toe or heel, a more oversize head that gives a large sweet spot, and a great entry-level set that will last longer than some of the cheaper options.
