Brand Claims
What does Jones claim about this board? Jones is a great all-mountain, freeride brand of snowboards. The Mountain Twin is a versatile directional twin designed for riders who want one board that can ride the whole mountain. These riders really know what they're doing when it comes to hitting the steeps, deeps, and finding the rest of the mountain to open up and explore. And this with a freestyle flair, makes the entire mountain so much fun.
Overall Impressions
What was your overall impression? Overall, this is one of the most fun boards I have ever ridden. Today as a true all-mountain rider, I grew up riding park and this has the kind of a feel and touch to a board where I can really open up and ride confidently anywhere on the mountain. It's not like my old East Coast Park board that I would be jibbing and buttering on, this is a true mountain board that can slay the biggest features, the best jumps, and even hit rail. I could comfortably feel that I could ride all of that. It is really a slopestyle board at heart that will conquer the entire mountain.
Carving
How does it turn? Carving on this board was super staple. Being on a slightly stiffer flex side of a board, I was able to lock in turns. With the stiffer flex I could really get high up on my edges pretty quick. It was a lot of fun to quickly turn edge to edge without any part of the board feeling too soft. In tighter situations, the torsional stability of the board allowed me to make quicker more dynamic turns, which was very helpful in different terrain and conditions.
Was it chattery or was it pretty stable? Jones does a great job at making very damp and chatter free boards. They are really attuned to what's going on with the changing mountain conditions. So as the conditions and terrain changes, this board can handle it all. The Mountain Twin can power through any conditions you throw at it on the mountain and it’s a really fun board at the end of the day.
Freestyle
How did this board perform from a freestyle aspect? On the freestyle end of things, this board to me really feels like a slopestyle board, but something that you can take the freestyle mindset to the rest of the mountain. It butters well, but it’s not extremely jibby because it's not super soft. It's at that point where you get the right flex pattern, so you can press into where you need to, but still get that snap, pop and control on the entire way down the hill. I was able to launch off anything that I found and I felt really confident on whatever I was doing. Whether I was riding regular or switch, this board could go any way and anywhere down the hill and I had a great time riding it.
Freeride
How is the board for freeriding? The freeride aspect of this board shines, but with a freestyle flair. It can aggressively ride the entire mountain, but it will not overpower you. It gave me the confidence to really push my ability to find those tree runs, drop a little cliff, ride in confidence when the conditions aren’t ideal and still have a good time.
Recommendations
Finally, who would you recommend this board to? I would definitely recommend this board to riders that want to explore not only freestyle park riding but the entire mountain to include on the resort, some backcountry and even the terrain park. This board is going to cover all different types of terrain with a freestyle mindset. Popping, spinning and really locking in new tricks is what makes this board a ton of fun. I would recommend this board for higher end riders because it does have that great Jones technology built into it. It is definitely not for a new intermediate rider, because it takes a little bit more feel and knowledge of how to ride this board to really open up its full potential and unlock its features.
Who would you not recommend this board to? I wouldn't recommend this for beginners. This is definitely not a beginner friendly board. Even though most freestyle boards tend to be a little bit easier to step into, this Jones Mountain twin is on the more aggressive end of freestyle boards with its stiffer flex and shape. It would take a little bit to get used to, but it really does have that confidence backing it.
