How it performs
What I was looking for
I have used several wedge brands over the years and wanted to find something more unique. Titleist wedges have a high fanfare, but I wanted to see what else is out there. So, I pulled the trigger on the Tiger Woods MG2s. I have an older Adams 52 I play, and the hit is always great. And while I was looking for that feel and consistency, I wanted a better spinning wedge.
Why I chose this club
I chose the MG2s because of the many positive, firsthand reviews I read. Like I said above, I considered several wedges, but the payoff from choosing this one instead was huge.
What I love about it
- Launch: There wasn’t any issue in this entire club that I could find.
- Forgiveness: The raw face really grips the ball, so it helps correct hits. If I ever feel like I hit a stroke thin or bladed it a little, the spin from the raw face slows it down so quickly that my partners will think it was exactly what I wanted to do.
- Feel: It feels like cutting warm butter. Every shot feels so soft; I never get a stinger.
- Spin: It has an unreal spin because of the raw face. The MG2s are top notch.
- Bounce: I don’t ever feel like I will blade it with these bounces. The speed grooves put into the sole of the club combined with the bounce allow this to feel like I never even touch grass.
- Around the Green: Confidence soars with these in my hands. The touch and spin are so good with the raw face.
- Full Shots: It feels like I can hit anything, and it will always be a laser at the flag.
- Aesthetic Appeal: These were the sexiest wedges I have ever played. The combination of the flat silver, chrome edge, red emblem, and that it’s the Tiger Woods edition make this THE club to have.
- Innovation: Whoever came up with the raw face MG design deserves all the credit. It doesn’t rust like one would think while still being very appealing to the eye.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Loft Options:: The versatility of product offerings could be improved. I would like to see this club available in all loft options.
Best Shot with this Wedge
I was five yards off the green. I had that feeling like I bladed a wedge; the immediate fear of where the ball might end up. The amazing thing was the ball checked so hard, it took one bounce and stopped dead in its tracks—an inch from the cup. That’s how I knew these clubs are amazing.
Value for the money vs. other options
This club outperforms the more expensive Titleist Vokey. That is how good the Milled Grind 2 Tiger Woods edition clubs are. And at the price point, it’s just a shame there aren’t so many other loft options.
Final verdict
I issue a challenge: buy the much more expensive Vokey wedge, and then buy a Milled Grind 2 Tiger woods edition. Then return the other wedge while a full refund is still possible. That is how good these are at the price point!
