What I was looking for

I prefer mallet putters over any other type of putter, so I wanted to give the 3D Cobra Agera a try because it is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye with its black finish and large mallet style head. Secondly, I am a feel putter and wanted something with a soft face that would allow me to feel the putt through contact more consistently.

Why I chose this club

This putter is top of the line from its appearance down to its performance. The soft feel in the face, paired with its balance, allows the ball to roll pure off the face with consistency. Putting is all about feel, and this putter checks all the boxes.

What I love about it

  • Face Feel: The SIK face technology has a balancing feature that really allows me to feel the club striking the ball, which is what I want in a putter.
  • Forgiveness: It’s very forgiving. Even when the putt isn’t stuck perfectly, it still rolls pure.
  • Alignment: The alignment is easy at address with the all-black feature and the single white line.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Amazing. Pulling this out of the bag is a nice feeling. The steel shaft down to the all-black mallet head really makes the putter stand out.
  • Grip Feel: Grip feel was solid. It has a pistol oversized grip which is comfortable regardless of hand placement.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Weight: This putter is lighter than I would have liked. It weighs 385 grams but feels lighter than that, which was hard for me to get used to.
  • Customization: I would have liked to see how a 33 or 34-inch putter would have performed, since the standard length is 35 inches. I like one or two inches less on my putters, because I am 5’10’’ and with my putting stance I find I putt better with shorter putters.

Best Putt or Round with this Putter

I demoed this putter on two different occasions to gain a feel for how it would perform. Consistency was the name of the game. I made 10 5-footers in a row and 8 out of 10 10-footers. For a guy who doesn’t play as much as he used to, I will take those numbers all day!

Value for the money vs. other options

The Agera runs at $349. For those who are looking for a higher-end mallet putter, I would recommend the Agera. I do think there are other cheaper options (Cobra King Vintage Sport 60 or Cobra King Vintage Torino) out there that will perform well, but the Agera gives the consistency and overall confidence that other putters don’t.

Final verdict

Overall this putter unlocks potential—the potential to make more long putts and be even more consistent in knocking down those 5-10 foot pressure putts without breaking a sweat.
