My take

Having Mizuno T22 copper wedges in my bag has been an immediate boost to my short game. From the spin to the feel, these wedges are simply the best. I can use them in a variety of ways like bunkers, tight lies, or rough, and I have shaved so many strokes off with them. These wedges are ideal for a mid-handicap golfer who is looking for great feel, spin, and control.

How they perform

What I was looking for

I recently played the T22 Wedges by Mizuno and loved their control and feel. I saw they released a new wedge and could not pass on it. I was looking for that same Mizuno feel and needed to get a better spin because the grooves on my previous wedges were getting worn down. The copper finish, different sole grinds, and feel were unmatched.

Why I chose this club

I decided to go with the T22 after considering some other wedges from Callaway, Vokey, and Cleveland. I watched a ton of reviews on YouTube and then tried out the wedges in person. The soft feel and control of the T22 is what separates it from the rest. I can really dial in what grind, bounce, and finish I like.

What I love about it

• Launch: The launch is mid-low with a ton of control. I can open or close the face to manipulate the trajectory. When I am hitting a shot over a bunker, I can open up the face and easily get over. If I am closer to the green, I can play bump and run spinners. Full shots are penetrating and stick where I want them to.
• Forgiveness: It is a soft, forgiving club but meant for the mid-low handicap player. I have felt the forgiveness on spin control. A groove low or high still spins well on the greens.
• Feel: The feel is exceptional. Nothing feels like a Mizuno and the copper underlay makes it feel like the forged Mizuno Pro and Tour lines. I like to feel the ball off the club face, and these wedges have helped me with the distance control I need. The copper underlay allows me to change trajectories and pick out my spots to land.
• Spin: The spin is one of the best parts of these wedges. Super controlled, especially near and around the green. I can still play bump and run shots that lower the spin rates. I like to play shots off the back of my foot and play it like a putter; the wedge is exceptional for this.
• Around the Green: Around the green, I play a ton of bump and runs or low spinners. I have been consistently getting up and down in this area.
• Full Shots: Full shots are easy. They feel great off the club face. It almost feels effortless when hitting a full shot. They penetrate and spin, allowing for ultimate control
• Innovation: The micro-grooves, especially in wet conditions, maintain excellent spin and control over the ball.

Issues I’ve encountered

• Bounce: So many different bounce options; I went with some that were lower-mid. Paired with the grinds, I can dial in the bounce options for my playing conditions. I played a lot of tight, firmer courses where the low-bounce options thrived, and it does not dig in. I use the mid-higher-bounce options in the fluffier lies in the rough. Sometimes, however, the low-bounce option is not always the greatest out of bunkers. It can dig too much and I do not get the sliding feeling I should.
• Aesthetic Appeal: The copper finish is beautiful. No glare at all and looks great at address. However, I’ve noticed it often does not last as long, especially near the sole. I feel I have to be careful in bunkers roughing up the wedge.

Best Shot with this wedge

The low-spinner shot with this wedge is something that I have used and dialed in. It hits once or twice and checks well next to the pin. I hit two great shots in my most recent round where I was short of the green but was able to get up and down with a three-foot putt.

Value for the money vs. other options

This club is worth the money. The grooves last long, the feel is unmatched, and I have so many options to choose from. Compared against TaylorMade MG3 or Vokeys, the T22 has more control and a softer feel. Looking into cheaper options like the Tour Edge or Cleveland CBX, they might not last as long or might not benefit from the control of the T22.

Final verdict

I am a huge fan of Mizuno irons and love the feel. The T22 wedge is the best wedge option for my game. The look, control, and the grind/bounce options make it easy to dial in my wedge game and find the best options for the given conditions.
