How they perform
What I was looking for
I was looking for a golf ball that could withstand my faster clubhead speed, yet offer a soft feel and some durability.
Why I chose this golf ball
I chose the Srixon Z-Star based on feel and performance. I tested the Z-Star balls against other options such as the Mizuno RB Tour, the TaylorMade TP5 and Titleist’s AVX golf balls. I was impressed with its green-side spin control as well as the overall feel and performance.
What I love about it
- Distance: The balls get great distance. I felt able to capitalize on well-struck shots.
- Feel: The soft feel is wonderful for getting better feedback from longer clubs and off the tee box.
- Green Spin: Z-Star balls offer great spin control, but less spin the further it gets from the greens.
- Durability: The ball is very durable in comparison to other more soft-feeling mid-compression golf balls.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Feel: The golf ball does not feel either firm or soft, it’s more of an awkward in-between.
- Green Spin: On close shots within 10-15 yards it is tougher to generate spin.
Best shot with this golf ball
My best shot with a Srixon Z-Star was on a long par 5 about 600 yards downhill with the wind on my back. I wanted to try and reach the green in two. I hit a perfect drive down the middle and had a nice lie to hit a 3 wood into the green. The ball hit the fairway a few times and rolled up pin high for a great-looking eagle lip out.
Value for the money vs. other options
Srixon Z-Star golf balls are a great value-option. They are not quite as expensive per dozen as some other manufacturers like Titleist, but players will still get a top-performing golf ball.
Final verdict
Srixon Z-Star 7 golf balls offer a level of quality and performance that fits a wide variety of golfers. More specifically, this golf ball is going to be best for the mid-to-high handicappers with faster swing speeds. I would also recommend the Z-Star ball to any golfer wanting a mid-to-high compression golf ball.
