About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf balls, which I purchased with my own money in September of 2022.
My take
The Mizuno RB 566V golf ball is geared towards beginner/intermediate players who don’t want to spend a lot on balls. It’s a solid all-around ball with a decent feel and distance, though it doesn’t stand out in any category in particular.

How it performs
What I was looking for
As an 8 handicap with a swing speed of 105 mph, I want a ball that gives me excellent distance and superb control on the greens without paying ProV1x prices of $50/dozen. That’s why I was interested to see how these Mizuno RB 566V balls would perform at $29.95/dozen.
Why I chose this golf ball
The ball is advertised as having a balanced performance with a soft touch and low spin on the driver. I’ve tried lots of balls in the price range of $20-$30 per dozen, and since my driver tends to elevate too much, I wanted to give the Mizuno RB 566V ball a shot.
What I love about it
- Feel: I expected a rock-hard feel for a box of balls that only costs $29.95. The Mizuno RB 566V left me pleasantly surprised. The feel is soft, and I feel confident that I will have the right touch to dial in the distance before each iron swing.
- Durability: The ball holds up nicely over the course of the round. The cover is durable without being hard, and my wedges don’t create any cuts in the ball.
- Color: This is a white ball, so it’s easy to track.
- Other: The balls in each of the four sleeves have different numbers: 1, 3, 5, and 7. I especially like the balls with the 7, mainly because other brands just go up to 4, so it’s cool to have a different number. Plus, almost no one else plays a Mizuno ball, so there’s little chance of mixing up balls with someone else in the group.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Distance: The Mizuno RB 566V generates pretty good distance, especially when I strike my hybrid and long irons well. However, this ball has 566 dimples that are designed to generate extra hang time. Since I already have a high ball flight, this ball tends to balloon on me, especially with my driver, which prevents me from realizing my maximum potential distance.
- Green Spin: The ball has a soft feel, but it does not have the capability of generating any type of spin on the green, no matter how crisp I hit my wedges.
Best shot with this golf ball
The 13th hole at Black Creek is a long, uphill par 4. My drive was disappointing, so I had 240 yards left to the hole. I had a flier lie from the rough, so I used my 3 hybrid and absolutely crushed the ball to about 10 feet from the green. I could go up-and-down for a par, all thanks to the massive distance I could cover on my second shot.
Value for the money vs. other options
For balls that cost $29.95/dozen, the Mizuno RB 566V is definitely worth it. It is a well-balanced ball with better than expected feel and pretty good distance, without being exceptional in either category. Usually, balls in this price range go really long but have limited touch, like the Callaway Warbird, or they are soft but lose a lot of distance, like the Callaway Supersoft.
Final verdict
For the price, this is a quality ball with no obvious shortcomings. It has a relatively soft touch without being able to generate much spin. It has decent distance too, but I have a high ball flight, so I lost some distance because of the extra dimples on the ball that are designed to increase hang time. Overall though, this is a well-balanced golf ball.
