About this Review: This review is my dad's honest opinion of the wedge, which I purchased for him in February of 2022.
My take
I gifted my dad the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedges in February 2022. TaylorMade’s milled grind wedge is a great option for golfers who need extra forgiveness and feel around the greens.

How it performs
What I was looking for
I was looking for a wedge that my dad would feel confident with. He had struggled greenside for a while, not getting clean contact close to the green and taking multiple chips greenside at times. The Hi-Toe was an obvious choice. I decided to get him the milled grind sole for an advanced turf interaction feel.
Why I chose this club
I decided to buy this club for my dad because I thought it would be the best performing option for him.
I considered other full grooved face options, such as Cleveland’s Full Toe and Callaway’s Hi-Toe, but decided to stick with the milled grind sole and TaylorMade, a brand my dad has enjoyed for years.
Grooves on Sand Wedge
What I love about it
- Launch: Great launch, especially with the lighter graphite shaft.
- Forgiveness: It’s very forgiving with the extra face grooves for tougher lies and to get under the ball more.
- Feel: Greenside feel is immaculate, a bit heavier than a typical wedge, which is why I had my dad get a graphite shaft in his wedge.
- Spin: Exceptional spin control within 50 yards, able to stop the ball with minimal rollout. Face grooves designed to generate higher spin rates.
- Around the Green: One of the best greenside wedges ever made. Extremely forgiving, offering the most shot choices with more places to hit the ball on the face.
- Aesthetic Appeal: Beautiful Wedges, well designed and appealing at address.
- Innovation: Milled grind sole promotes optimal turf interaction, giving golfers additional feel. The fully grooved face offers more spin on miss hits greenside.
Issues I encountered
- Full Shots: As a full-toe wedge, full shots will not be as accurate, sacrificing shot dispersion for greenside forgiveness. Not going to offer the precision lower handicap golfers are searching for with wedges.

Best Shot with this Wedge
I couldn’t even come up with the best shot for my dad and his new wedge. I’ve seen him hit the pin three times in 9 holes. It’s his new favorite club in the bag. He seems to have forgotten how to hit bump and runs because he has never been so accurate with a lob wedge. Attacking the pins even when he shouldn’t, this wedge has him having fun with the game.
Value for the money vs. other options
TaylorMade’s Hi-Toe 3 Wedge is worth its value of $179.99 for a milled grind sole and extra face grooves that are designed to generate more spin. Cleveland’s Full Face Zipcore Wedge would offer a very similar overall feel and performance without the milled grind sole at $149.99. Callaway’s Hi-Toe is the same price as TaylorMade, also without the milled grind sole. Edel SMS Wedges offer milled grind soles at $199.99.
Final verdict
TaylorMade’s Hi-Toe 3 Wedge offers a great amount of forgiveness in spin control around the greens. It comes in multiple finishes, such as copper, stainless steel, and even a nice all-black finish. These wedges are played by a ton of tour pros, including Tiger Woods. The milled grind sole offers way better turf interaction than others on the market. The Hi-Toe offers additional face grooves to offer better contact and forgiveness on flop shots.
