How to Measure Nordic Poles
On average, the ideal pole size is considered to be equal to the skier's height multiplied by 0.83 for classic cross-country skiing, and 0.89 for skate skiing. For Nordic skiing, your pole must reach your shoulder. For skate skiing, measure the distance from the ground to your ear; even if it seems high, it's the minimum needed to generate good thrust.

How to Measure Alpine Poles
To measure the correct size for ski poles, ideally you should wear your boots, or even your skis. If you already have a ski pole, simply flip the ski pole over and grasp it under the basket. Hold the stick straight down and press it against the floor; the upper part of your arm should stay close to your body. If your arm is at a right angle, the ski pole is the correct size.
