How they perform
What I was looking for
I was looking for affordable gloves that would keep my hands warm and dry.
Why I chose this gear
I bought the Dakine Scout gloves because they were one of the few options under $100 when I was in the shop. I did not consider any other glove option because I did not want to spend a fortune on gloves.
What I love about them
- Fit: These gloves fit amazingly with room for hand warmers and liners.
- Comfort: The Dakine Scout gloves are soft on the inside and super comfortable.
- Ease of movement: These gloves are not restrictive at all.
- Warmth: These gloves keep my hands warm, and on days when it's very cold, I just add the liners that are included. I've never felt as if these gloves did not give me the warmth I needed.
- Breathability: The Dakine Scout gloves are breathable, and my hands do not really sweat in them. Moisture can leave the glove.
- Weight: These gloves are lightweight.
- Conditions: These gloves thrive on days that are below freezing. However, I would not wear these as springtime gloves.
- Touchscreen compatibility: The liner included with the gloves work with touchscreens. Otherwise, the glove itself does not work with touchscreens.
- Features: These gloves have wrist strings, so I can remove them on the chairlift without fearing my glove falling below.
- Quality: These gloves are of amazing quality for a budget-priced glove.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Waterproofing: The Dakine Scout gloves are not the most waterproof and get saturated on wet, rainy days.
- Durability: These gloves have shown signs of wear and tear, and the leather on the palm side shows cuts from doing grab tricks. The leather isn't the most durable. The thumbs are also starting to wear, but this is more of a visual issue for me than an issue with the gloves' functionality.
Dangle your gloves without needing to put them in the snow!
Favorite moment with this gear
I love the extended wrist of the Dakine Scout gloves, and they really do help keep the snow out during stormy days. These are extremely helpful when I've taken spills in deeper snow in Colorado and have had to push myself back up. For example, I took a spill in some deep snow at Copper Mountain, and it was an awesome feeling pushing myself up with snow up to my elbows, and my hands stayed dry. Just make sure to keep the wrist gaiters tight.
Value for the money vs. other options
The Dakine Scout gloves do their job and, for a budget option, have held up extremely well. I am thoroughly impressed with a glove under $100, and I will replace this pair once they fully wear out. These are better than similarly priced gloves, such as the Burton Profile gloves or Gordini Fall line gloves, because they come with the added liners. And for a non-GORE-TEX glove, they keep one’s hands bone dry.
Final verdict
The Dakine Men’s Scout gloves are fantastic for anyone not wanting to spend a fortune on gloves. These gloves will keep anyone warm and even come with an extra liner for those really cold days.
