Expert Review: Odyssey DFX One Putter

About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the putter, which I tested for two days from August of 2022 to January of 2023.
My take
The Odyssey DFX #1 is a good putter for that average golfer looking to upgrade. The grip allows the putter to feel comfortable in their hands, while the weight and face make it easy to feel the ball connect with their head. In turn, this creates more consistency and feel on both long and short putts.

How it performs
What I was looking for
I wanted to test a variety of blade-style putters, looking for ones that had the best weight, feel, and forgiveness, mostly within 10 feet or closer to the hole.
Why I chose to test this club
After testing this putter, I thought it was a solid option considering its price. However, I was only in the market to see how this putter performed as it doesn’t align with my skill set and what I am looking for, but I was pleased with the consistency of short putts it offered.
What I love about it
- Length: The putter is 35 inches which I prefer being 5’10’’, as it allows me to swing my arms through while having them hang straight down.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The silver shaft with the matte black putter head is really sharp and drew my eyes toward the putter.
- Grip Feel: The grip was the standard Odyssey that comes with it by default. It was all rounded (cylinder-like) and felt very comfortable in my hands, both on long and short putts.
- Balance: The putter offers a high MOI (Moment of Inertia) which creates a consistent stroke going back and through the ball with each putt regardless of the distance.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Face Feel: The face feel is that of a rock. It is not soft and doesn’t have a softer feel to it like some of the higher-end putters I tested.
- Forgiveness: The forgiveness is not great, which felt particularly clear on longer putts. I struggled with distance control due to its lack of feel and missed putts all over the place.
- Weight: The weight was too light at 345g. I prefer heavier putters in the 365g range as I feel that best allows me to swing the putter back and through on a consistent line.
- Alignment: The small single line is not my favorite as I prefer a longer line like those on mallet putters. The smaller line is tough to align consistently and made me second guess if I was pointing toward the hole correctly.
Best Putt or Round with this Putter
I made five two putts out of seven tries in my testing session. This wasn’t my best effort, but with how inconsistent I felt the putter was, this was my highlight.
Value for the money vs. other options
For its price, I think the Odyssey DFX #1 performs well. When I compared the DFX Seven Putter and the Cobra 3D Agera Putter, which I tried simultaneously, I thought this was the third best option. I would go with the DFX Seven or spend a little more money and go with Cobra 3D Agera, as they have a softer face and offer up more consistency on longer and shorter putts.
Final verdict
The Odyssey DFX #1 Putter is simply okay. A mid to low handicapper wouldn’t be impressed by it, but average weekend golfers could find some value.
