About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the putter, which I purchased with my own money in July of 2022.

My take

The Mizuno M.Craft OMOI Type II Putter is a high-level blade putter for players in the above-average range. Although any golfer can use this putter, its price and design rewards above-average players more. Paired with its impressive aesthetic look (especially in black), this putter will make its user look great while rolling in putts.

What I was looking for

After playing a 40-year-old putter passed down to me, I decided it was well overdue to upgrade to current technology. I was looking for something that would update my bag to the current technology used in putters and would also look great too.

Why I chose this club

I chose to buy this putter because it matched exactly what I was looking for and came at a great price. I wanted something that would look great while rolling putts in, and Mizuno does that.

What I love about it

  • Face Feel: The deep milled face has a craft feel that I prefer to an insert. It definitely rewards a good and consistent putting stroke.
  • Weight: I love that this putter comes with a weight kit, which enables me to change the weighting on the bottom of the putter to curate towards my stroke. I have changed the weights that come with the putter to be both lower and higher in weight, but ended up preferring to continue to use the putter with the standard weights in it.
  • Alignment: If one cares about a topline to help with putting alignment, the black finish also includes a blacked-out topline. If one prefers something that will stand out to help align putts, the black finish does not do that. I prefer to have a topline that stands out, but I have not noticed any drop in alignment success with the black-on-black look.
  • Length: I chose to get the putter with 35 inches of length. I knew beforehand from testing that this was my ideal length, which can be done at any golf shop by hitting a few putts with different lengths of putter shafts. Mizuno offers both 34 and 35 inches in this putter.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: I think this putter is one of the best-looking putters on the market. Aesthetically, the blacked-out look is incredibly appealing and definitely a stylish way to walk onto the greens.
  • Grip Feel: Normally I would have chosen to change the putter grip to the “Pingman” skinny grip style like Tiger Woods has used over the years. I ordered this putter with the standard grip to see if I liked it and ended up loving the feel of it. I believe Mizuno put it on for a reason and since I liked the feel there was not a reason to remove it. The all black look also matches perfectly.
  • Customization: The other colors offered are White Satin and Blue Ion, which also are offered in the OMOI Type I and OMOI Type III if one likes a different putter head shape.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Forgiveness: Having the milled face and not an insert paired with the blade shape of the putter makes it unforgiving on a bad putting stroke. Finding that sweet spot in the center is important.

Best Putt or Round with this Putter

My favorite moment with this putter would be when my putter was hot along with the rest of my game. Before buying this Mizuno putter, I struggled with putts inside of 15 feet. On this particular day, I remember dropping four putts in a row from various ranges inside of 15 feet to make four birdies in a row on the front nine!

Value for the money vs. other options

In comparison to other putters, a lot of people would argue there is value to spending a few extra dollars on a Scotty Cameron. Neither of the options are budget putters, so I can understand wanting to buy the big name and popular putter if investing in a high level flat stick. Overall, I would say that this putter is definitely worth the money.

Final verdict

I believe that the Mizuno OMOI Type II compares to other putters at the top priceline of the market even though it sits slightly less expensive. This putter has a very sleek and well-designed look for a blade putter.
