About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the putter, which I tested for one day in January of 2023.

My take

The Mizuno OMOI Type III is a great mallet putter for those lower-range handicappers who want an incredibly soft putter face that will allow them to gauge their feel on longer putts and be more consistent on those 5-10 footers. It also has a sleek simple design that makes it pop when taking it out of the bag.

What I was looking for

I was looking for a mallet putter that offered feel within the face and more consistency on putts within 10 feet. I had tried the previous M.Craft series line from 2021 but wanted to see how the new OMOI line by Mizuno compared.

Why I chose to test this club

This club has a forged 1025 carbon steel design with a milled face that creates a softer feel where each putt is felt all the way up to my hands. Distance control from 20+ feet was a huge asset of this putter as I consistently rolled each putt within 2-3 feet. Putts from 10 feet and closer were also an asset, as the balance and feel allowed a smooth, concise stroke to repeat every time. I did not purchase this putter as I was merely testing it out compared to the other M.Craft series putters.

What I love about it

  • Face Feel: The milled putter face creates a crazy feel on longer lag putts. It didn’t take long to dial in the feel for putts 20+ feet away and further.
  • Forgiveness: The forgiveness was solid as each putt was consistent regardless of where it was struck on the face of the putter. This is in large part due to the CNC milled face design, but also the weighted putter head.
  • Weight: The ability to adjust the putter weight within the head is a key feature in this putter as it allows each person to gauge their ideal weight.
  • Alignment: The single black line on the back of the mallet head creates a sharp visual which gave me the confidence I was correctly aligned on each putt.
  • Length: I prefer a 35-inch putter, so the fact that this was a stock club allowed me to get a solid gauge of its swing arc and feel.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The black satin finish is sharp and would give anyone some swagger when pulling the club out of their bag.
  • Grip Feel: The grip is a standard pistol that fits snugly within my hands and has a tacky feel that allows for a comfortable grip regardless of hand placement.
  • Balance: The higher MOI (Moment of Inertia) on this putter allows for a smooth and repeatable backswing and follow-through. This allows each putt to be struck the same and is easy to replicate regardless of how par each putt is.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Customization: I tried the stock 35-inch putter. However, I would have liked to test the 34-inch putter as sometimes, due to my arm swing, it is more comfortable. That’s my only knock, but it comes down to a personal preference and not anything to do with the technology.

Best Putt or Round with this Putter

I hit over 10 putts from 20+ feet and did not three-putter any of them. The feel within this putter is incredible, as its face is one of the softest on the market and allowed me to dial in my distance control to have multiple tap in two putts.

Value for the money vs. other options

I tested the entire Mizuno M.Craft series of putters, but the OMOI gets the nod for being the best putter in the series. I also think it is just as good, if not better, than the more expensive putters like the Scotty Cameron Special Select series.

Final verdict

If someone is looking for feel and the ability to adjust the putter weight, the Mizuno OMOI Type III is an ideal putter. Any golfer can craft this putter to their liking to manufacture more made putts and lower their scores.
