About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the putter, which I tested for one day in January of 2023.
My take
The Odyssey DFX Double Wide Putter is a decent blade putter for mid to high-range handicappers who want a thicker blade style option. Its single line down the back with the matte satin finish also gives it a sharp aesthetic appeal.

How it performs
What I was looking for
I was looking for a mallet putter, but with the thickness of this blade-style putter, so I decided to give the Odyssey DFX Double Wide Putter a try.
Why I chose to test this club
The Odyssey DFX Double Wide Putter performed similarly to a mallet putter with its larger backing and was pleased most with its alignment features. This club was an okay putter, but I did not purchase it due to its lack of feel and forgiveness. Additionally, I couldn’t get over the fact that it was a blade putter, and I have been using a mallet-styled head for years.
What I love about it
- Alignment: The alignment is sharp with its single line down the head on the matte finish, creating confidence that the ball is lined up correctly each time which ultimately helped me on shorter putts.
- Length: I enjoy the 35-inch putter as it provides me the best opportunity to swing my arms back and through the ball on short and long putts. Based on my traditional putting grip and stance, I believe this best suits my straight back and through putting stroke.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The thicker black head with the red and white accent makes for a sharp visual appeal on this putter.
- Grip Feel: The grip was the standard Odyssey that comes with it by default. It was all rounded (cylinder-like) and felt very comfortable in my hands, both on long and short putts.
- Balance: The balance was consistent on each swing regardless of the length of the putt. The MOI (Moment of Inertia) was key because my backswing and follow-through were easily repeatable.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Face Feel: The face feel is that of a rock. It is not soft and doesn’t have a softer feel to it like some of the higher-end putters I tested. This makes it difficult to gauge the distance control and settle in on shorter putts as it felt like I was putting with a brick.
- Forgiveness: The forgiveness is not great either, which felt particularly clear on longer putts. I struggled with distance control due to its lack of feel and was missing putts all over the place. Again this was due to its lack of softness within the putter head.
- Weight: The weight was too light for me at 345g. I prefer heavier putters in the 365g range as I feel that best allows me to swing the putter back and through on a consistent line.
Best Putt or Round with this Putter
I did a putting drill where I hit a 3-foot, 6-foot, 9-foot, and a 12-foot putt one after the other and could dial in the 3 and 6-foot range putts pretty easily; however, I struggled to find consistency on the 9 and 12-foot putts as my distance control and speed could never get on track.
Value for the money vs. other options
I tested the entire Odyssey DFX series of putters; all of them are priced the same and feel similar in regards to their feel and performance. The Odyssey DFX Double Wide Putter is a budget-friendly putter, so for the value, it will be a decent option for the weekend golfer. However, the Mizuno M.Craft or the Cleveland Huntington Beach series are two quality options if someone wants to spend more money.
Final verdict
If someone is looking for a thicker blade-style putter with sharp alignment features, the Odyssey DFX Double Wide Putter is a great budget-friendly option. It doesn’t provide the softness within the face that other higher-end putters do, but the average weekend golfer won’t notice the difference and will find it valuable to their game.
