What I was looking for

I was looking for a snowboard that was responsive and explosive in the park. Yet, I also wanted to be able to carve up the whole mountain. I wanted something that would be great for morning groomer runs and afternoon park laps, and the Salomon Huck Knife Pro Snowboard fit the bill perfectly.

Why I chose this gear

I was considering a few other models—including the Burton Blossom, Ride Twinpig, and Capita Mega Mercury—but the Salomon Huck Knife Pro really stood out to me. It has a relatively aggressive camber profile that provides great edge grip and stability. The camber combined with the super stiff build gives this board unreal pop. I also really appreciated the durable construction. It's designed to withstand a lot of abuse. In the end, I knew this was the board for me because it was perfect for shredding the park and ripping the rest of the mountain with ease.

Wear and tear after 1 session - some slight scuffs and top sheet scratches

Wear and tear after 1 session - little bit of lift line damages, but edges are great

What I love about it

  • Speed: This board is lightweight and features a sintered base, making it very fast. Combined with the camber underfoot and the stiff profile, I can charge with the Huck Knife Pro.
  • Edge hold: The camber makes the edge hold great on this board. It also comes with a factory bevel on the nose and tail, as well as between the feet, which gives it great forgiveness and grip on hardpack and rails or boxes.
  • Turns: The Huck Knife Pro is super responsive at both slow and high speeds. It’s a bit chunkier at super slow speeds, but nothing substantial. I feel I can really lay out my turns with this board—it really grips well, ripping high-speed carves.
  • Groomers: Groomers are super fun on this board. It just wants to play. The playful pop and twin shape make this thing a freestyle monster on groomers. Side hits are a blast as well. One can soar with this board.
  • Trees: This super responsive board makes trees very fun. I like how the twin shape helps me get out of sticky situations. When I find myself stuck in tight spaces, the twin allows me to ride regular or switch with no difference in performance.
  • Park: This is a park board through and through—yet it handles the whole mountain with ease. The explosive pop and stiff shape let one fly off the biggest and baddest jumps in the park and land with stability. The beveled edges give this thing forgiveness on rails and bad landings. The twin shape makes switch landing and riding super easy. All around, there are many reasons why this is a top-of-the-class freestyle board.
  • Durability: Great durability. This thing handles all types of damage. From rails to rocks, this thing has hit them all. After over 40+ days of testing this board, the base was in really good shape. There were minor scratches but no core shots. All the scuffs and scratches I picked up wax out very easily.
  • Weight: At roughly 6lbs, this is a great weight for a park board; it’s light enough to spin easily and heavy enough to stomp landings.
  • Switch riding: This board is a dream to ride switch; the true twin shape makes it the exact same ride whether I’m cruising normal or switch.
  • Stability: This board is very lightweight, so sometimes I feel slightly unstable at super high speeds. Nothing out of the ordinary, though. Considering the weight of the board, the stability is actually great. The camber shape gives this board amazing pop. This is also enhanced with Ghost Carbon Beams in the tip and tail, which gives it an even-more-nasty pop in the front and back. The combination of lightweight cork and honeycomb in the tip of this board provides increased dampening and shock resistance when taking big landings. Buttering is great on this board, but by no means is it the easiest. Because of the super stiff flex pattern, I really have to lean into my butters. The added benefit is that I can really pop out of my butters with a lot of force. There’s also very little underfoot chatter because of the stiff shape. Even at super high speeds, I can’t notice any chatter.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Powder: This board is not built for powder and lacks float in deep stuff. The twin shape and centered stance make it suffer to stay afloat. However, this thing shreds dust on the crust. When there’s just that touch of pow, this thing is awesome.
  • Moguls: I find myself riding over moguls and using them as jumps with this board. The stiff shape and explosive pop make moguls my freestyle park. However, sometimes this board gets away from me. The explosiveness and pop could sometimes be a bad thing when I got out of control on moguls. If I wasn’t paying attention, I would get launched.
  • Backcountry: This board is not designed for the backcountry. I’d recommend a splitboard instead.

My new 2023 Huck Knife Pro

Favorite moment with this gear

My favorite moment with the Salomon Huck Knife Pro Snowboard was definitely when I took it to the park for the first time. The board was incredibly responsive, explosive, stable, and just so much fun to ride. I was able to hit jumps and rails with ease, and the board just felt like an extension of my body. I felt like I could do anything with it and it definitely helped me take my riding to the next level. I always have an absolute blast on this thing.

Value for the money vs. other options

I think the Salomon Huck Knife Pro Snowboard is definitely worth the money. It's definitely on the higher end of the price range, but one gets what one pays for. Compared to cheaper models (Ride Twinpig), the Huck Knife Pro is much more durable and responsive. It was less chunky when I tested it. The Twinpig is made for slightly bigger feet. Similarly, compared to the more expensive models (Burton Blossom, Capita Mega Mercury), the Huck Knife Pro offered a greater** **balance of performance and affordability. I even saw the same, if not better, performance at a lower price.

Final verdict

The Salomon Huck Knife Pro Snowboard is a top-in-class park/freestyle board that can handle the whole mountain. The Huck Knife Pro is responsive, durable, and perfect for carving up the mountain or hitting the park. It's definitely worth the money, and I would highly recommend it.
