My take

The Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons are great players' distance and game-improvement irons. These irons are perfect for a mid-handicap player who prefers a traditional look and an amazing feel. The JPX 923 are also a great option for low handicap golfers for their 4 and 5 iron to provide added forgiveness and distance.

What I was looking for

When I purchased the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons, I was looking for an iron that would give me added forgiveness and distance.

Why I chose this club

I chose these clubs because they are one of the only forged players’ distance irons on the market. These irons help me launch the ball higher and increase the distance for all my irons.

What I love about it

• Distance: These irons are great for adding distance due to the larger style head and lower lofts, which help increase the ball speed to maximize distance.
• Forgiveness: The forged irons have a V-Chassis, making the club feel more solid and forgiving. I notice many times that the golf ball is much straighter on mishits with these irons.
• Feel: The irons feel great with a completely forged design and have the same great feel I can always rely on from Mizuno irons. Well-hit golf shots feel so soft and responsive with these forged irons.
• Sound: The sound is very good on well-struck shots; however, the club tends to sound a little clunky on mishits but still an overall great-sounding iron.
• Workability: Due to the larger head and stability frame, these irons are not as easily workable as the tour version or a more blade style, small head, golf club. However, the 923 Forged provides much more workability compared to other game improvement irons.
• Shaft Feel: All Project X iron shafts feel amazing and are why many top tour players like Rory McIlroy trust them.
• Shaft Performance: The Project X 6.5 rifle shaft is designed to be lower-spinning and geared for higher swing speeds, which is perfect for me.
• Aesthetic Appeal: These irons are perfect for the player who wants added forgiveness and distance while still having a very aesthetically pleasing and traditional look and design. Additionally, the V-Chassis allows for a thinner topline without sacrificing distance and forgiveness.
• Launch Angle: These irons launch perfectly to have a piercing ball flight while still having a great angle of descent into greens to stop quickly.
• Spin: The Mizuno JPX 923 does not spin as much as a blade style, small head iron would. However, they have much more spin than traditional game improvement and distance irons. They are one of the best spin irons aside from a blade-style iron.

Issues I’ve encountered

• Adjustability: There is no available adjustability after purchase. The only adjustability options would be to bring the clubs to a local golf shop and use the loft and lie machine to make adjustments.
• Grip Feel: The grip I had was the Golf Pride Midsize Tour Velvet and feels good but is not the best in wet conditions and will need to be changed annually. I do not like how quickly this grip wears out if I play golf frequently.

Best shot with this club

The best shot I ever hit with the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons was when I had 178 yards into a long par 4. I chose to start the ball a few yards left of the pin and cut it back in. These irons did exactly what I wanted and cut perfectly right on top of the pin and left me with an 8-foot putt for birdie.

Value for the money vs. other options

The Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons are the best iron for a golfer’s buck if they are a player serious about playing their best golf and getting better. If someone is looking for a game-improvement iron to help them hit the ball further and straighter but have a higher handicap, then the Callaway Mavrik Irons is their best option. They are roughly $600 on Curated, and although they do not perform nearly as well as the JPX 923 Forged Irons, they have a much cheaper price tag for a similar style iron.

The Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons will help players unlock their full potential to shoot lower scores every round. These irons help golfers hit the ball longer and straighter to hit more greens and have more birdie putts.
