How it performs
What I was looking for
I have been seeking a tour-quality ball that has a lower launch profile. I launch my irons very high and have trouble keeping my shots down in the wind. I wanted a ball that would help me have a piercing flight to assist in windy conditions.
Why I chose this golf ball
I decided to buy this ball because I have always used the Titleist ProV1 or ProV1x. I wanted to see if the 2023 model provided me with the flight I was searching for. I knew the ProV1 would have a softer feel than the ProV1x, yet still be very responsive. I considered other tour-quality balls offered by other brands, but ultimately chose the ProV1 for its overwhelmingly positive reputation among different tours across the world.
What I love about it
- Distance: I like how the mid-to-low launch characteristics bring the flight down on my longer clubs. This helps me hit a more piercing shot that the wind doesn’t influence as much. But while it still offers plenty of distance, the ProV1 is not as long as the ProV1x.
- Feel: The feel of this ball is soft but not too soft. It has a soft feel with every club, including the putter, but still gives enough feedback to be able to control wedge shots and putts.
- Green Spin: The ball has plenty of greenside spin on chips and shots that were 50+ yards. This gives me confidence that my ball will have enough spin to stop itself, even on firm and fast greens.
- Color: The cover is a bright white-gloss finish that is easy to see in flight and on the ground.
- Other: The new line is a bit more streamlined than the older models. The new sleek look of the line is a nice feature that is perfect for anyone who likes to use a line as a reference when putting.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Durability: Overall, the durability of the ball is average: after one round, I can see cuts/marks in the cover. It seems like the cuts/marks are mostly coming from full-swing wedge shots. The durability is comparable to most balls of this caliber that are offered by other manufacturers. I would be comfortable playing this ball for one full tournament round and for up to three casual rounds.

Best shot with this golf ball
I used this ball in a two-person best-ball tournament. We started the day out with a mediocre performance and knew we needed a strong finish to have a chance to be in the top three. On the 16th hole, a par 5, I hit a long drive and left myself 192 yards into the green. I flushed a perfect 6 iron, and it landed five feet from the pin, took one hop, and stopped. I was able to make the eagle put and secure a second-place finish for the team.
Value for the money vs. other options
If ball performance is a priority, I highly recommend the Titleist ProV1. The consistency of the ProV1 makes it worth the higher price tag. A comparable option to the Titleist ProV1 is the Bridgestone Tour B XS, which retails slightly cheaper. The Tour B XS’s dimple pattern seems to increase its durability compared to the ProV1, but it lacks spin around the greens when compared to the ProV1. Additionally, the ProV1 has a slightly softer feel off of the club face, which will appeal to a wider range of golfers. While there are other quality options, I believe that the Titleist ProV1 is the best option in its class.
Final verdict
Overall, the 2023 Titleist ProV1 remains at the top of its class and is one of the best golf balls that I have ever played with. I thoroughly enjoy the feel of it and how it brings down my ball flight just enough to be confident in windy conditions.
