About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf balls, which I purchased with my own money in March of 2022.
My take
For players seeking much lower spin, less ballooning, and a lower ball flight, the Callaway Chrome Soft X LS Truvis Shamrock Golf Ball is an excellent option for high-swing speed players, especially those who hit down on the ball.

How it performs
What I was looking for
The Chrome Soft X LS ball was part of my year-long test to determine my favorite distance golf ball. I wanted a low-spinning firm-feeling golf ball to help me keep the ball flying low on windy days.
Why I chose this golf ball
I decided to buy the Chrome Soft X LS ball as a low-spin maximum distance option based on excellent customer reviews. I also purchased Srixon Z-Star XV and Titleist Pro V1x as they offer similar distance, feel, and overall performance. I wanted to compare them all in person.
What I love about it
- Distance: Chrome Soft X LS golf ball offers excellent top-tier distance on all types of full shots. This ball spins less and flies lower for optimized flight and maximum rollout.
- Durability: The Chrome Soft X LS is a premium golf ball. Its cover is very durable. I have not noticed any signs of wear from normal use. I can easily play a ball for multiple rounds.
- Color: I love the look and feel of its cover. It’s bright white, and I think the shamrocks bring me luck.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Feel: This is a mid-to-firm feeling golf ball, which someone will definitely notice on mishits, and while the feedback is good, I don’t personally enjoy using a firmer golf ball.
Best shot with this golf ball
This is a great ball if someone likes to flight shots down. My favorite shot I’ve hit with the Chrome Soft X LS ball happened on the 8th hole at Brookledge Golf Club, a 210-yard par 3. On a day with the wind into my face, I pulled my 5 iron and flighted this ball low. It ran out onto the green, and while it left me a 10-foot putt, it was a very hard green to hit, so I was ecstatic.
Value for the money vs. other options
At approximately $50/dozen, I would stack the Chrome Soft X LS right up against the Pro V1x and slightly edge out Srixon Z-Star XV for overall durability and quality. I personally prefer the look of the cover of this ball more than any other.
Final verdict
The Callaway Chrome Soft X LS is an excellent golf ball for those with a fast swing speed looking for a lower spin. Its premium price point is warranted, and it offers some of the best qualities offered in any golf ball, given its distance and low-spin capabilities.
