What I was looking for

I was looking for a new wood that offered distance and forgiveness, as my current Callaway XR16s are becoming more and more outdated, and I don’t love their feel anymore.

Why I chose to test this club

I tested this club because it was visually appealing to the eye, and I have heard from other friends that Cobra woods are solid. I didn’t end up buying this club, but I loved the distance and how I was able to work the ball to my ideal fade flight.

What I love about it

  • Distance: With these woods, I carried the ball consistently 5–10 yards further in the air than my current XR16s. Plus, I have about 10–15 yards more of roll out—creating about 20 yards more distance than what I am used to.
  • Forgiveness: The forgiveness is better than I imagined. With the club being as light and the distance being as long as it is, I don’t feel like it sacrifices on the forgiveness side. My left or right shots were only 10–15 yards off target.
  • Feel: The feel is incredibly light and the composition of the head makes it so I can feel each shot where it hits upon the face of the club. I enjoy this because it gives instant feedback as to where I missed or if I struck it pure.
  • Sound: It’s normal “ting” sound has a nice ring to it. I’ve tried some other woods lately which have a thud or a loud ping to them and are not as nice on the ears on contact.
  • Workability: With these woods, I am able to consistently move the ball right to left with a high fade. I am pleased with the workability this club has to offer—not only off the tee but off the deck as well.
  • Adjustability: The ability to adjust the club to a draw or a fade bias is ideal, as it can fit any golfer’s game.
  • Shaft Performance: The shaft is incredibly lightweight and allows me to swing through the ball with a vengeance.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Their sleek, simple design looks cool from behind when addressing the ball. I like the blue accent, but the white addition to the bottom of the club also gives it that pop to stand out.
  • Launch Angle: The fall flies higher off the club than I expected, but I prefer that, as I like my ball to land softly with a high fade. This doesn’t affect my distance either, which is usually the case with a higher launch. For me, it is the perfect blend.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Spin: The spin rate is a little higher than I would have liked, at 4500 rpms. I prefer closer to the 4000-rpm mark. The lower spin rate keeps my ball flight straighter for longer, so the fact that it has more spin creates more chances for my fade to get away from me at times.

Best shot with this club

My best shot was a 235-yard left-to-right fade that landed within 10 yards of the green and trickled to about eight feet from the hole. The ball felt like it was on a string the whole time.

Value for the money vs. other options

I think this is a quality wood for its price tag. It is a higher-end club, so I wouldn’t recommend it for the average golfer but for someone with a higher budget. In my opinion, these woods perform better than TaylorMade Stealths and Callaway Rogues. It is longer and more forgiving than both but has a higher launch, creating more control.

Final verdict

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood is a great option for the serious golfer looking to take their game to the next level. Whether they want to break 80 or win their club championship, this is an elite fairway wood.
