About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf balls, which I purchased with my own money in January of 2023.

My take

The Callaway 2022 Chrome Soft X LS Triple Track is designed for players who hit long and want to maximize their advantage. To be honest, it’s not a great-feeling golf ball, and it doesn’t spin around the greens much. But that’s on purpose. Because, in my opinion, it has no match among tour-quality balls for golfers who are looking to maximize distance. My advice? Invite the playing mates to bring earplugs and watch the fireworks off the tee.

What I was looking for

I wanted to try out a golf ball that maximized my distance with my speed but provided a little less spin than the Chrome Soft Xs that I’ve recently switched to. I wanted to see if there was any additional forgiveness that came with a lower-spinning golf ball.

Why I chose this golf ball

I chose this golf ball because it’s the lower spinning version of a ball that I’m familiar with. I didn’t look at cheaper “hard” alternatives; I felt like they wouldn’t give me the feel I was looking for.

What I love about it

  • Distance: This golf ball is long. I notice longer distances off the tee and on my irons because of the decrease in spin and more piercing ball flight it offers. My irons don’t balloon into the air and aren’t at the mercy of the wind as much.
  • Durability: During my testing,** **I had to hit a few bunker shots, landed on a few cart paths, and bounced a few off of some trees—and the cover of these golf balls are no joke. They are very durable and will last a while, assuming one doesn't launch them into the woods or lake.
  • Color: The Triple Track helps me align putts, and I noticed I was putting better while testing these than I normally do. I don’t find it any harder to find in the woods, and the gloss finish actually made it easier to find this ball in tall grasses and leaves.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Feel: These balls feel rock hard—like Top Flite XL 2000 hard. There is nothing to feel other than looking down at the club to see if it’s still there.
  • Green Spin: I do notice some loss in spin around the green with the Chrome Soft X LS. I don’t find it to be unplayable, but I noticed some of my chips with my 60° had more rollout than I was anticipating.
  • Other: The sound these balls make off of the tee is not for everyone. I play a Sim2 Max driver, and off the tee it sounds like a gunshot. In comparison, the ChromeSoft X is not nearly as loud off the tee.

Best shot with this golf ball

I was playing a par 4 and I hit my approach shot into the bunker. The bunker was at the bottom of the hill, and I had to hit the ball eight feet up to get it onto the green, but I could only see the top of the flag from my lie. It was about a 30-yard shot to the pin. I took my 60°, opened it all the way, placed the ball in the front of my stance, and took a full swing. The ball sailed high up into the air, took two hops, and stopped five feet from the pin.

Value for the money vs. other options

These are tour-quality golf balls that lower spin and maximize distance. In comparison to the Callaway Superfasts that I was also testing around the same time, these golf balls travel longer, and I was putting better with them. The feel of the Superfast is more complete, but that’s a characteristic based on opinion, not numbers. For those looking for a firmer ball who want all the latest in tech from an elite company, it’s worth checking out the Chrome Soft X LS Triple Track.

Final verdict

This golf ball unlocks distance. Period. Players who are long off the tee and want to maximize that advantage over their playing group or opponents should give these balls a try.
