About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf club, which I purchased with my own money in January of 2023.

My take

The Cobra LTDX LS Fairway Wood is a low-spin bomber that features surprisingly high forgiveness. Definitely geared towards the lower handicapper, this club can be a weapon off the tee box to achieve driver-like distances. Or, it could be helpful off the fairway to make those long par 5s reachable in two.

What I was looking for

I was looking for a long, low-spin fairway wood that was still forgiving off the tee as a fairway finder when I couldn’t use a driver on particular holes with narrow fairways. I also wanted 3 wood somewhere between a deep face and a shallow face. Ideally, a club that I was comfortable both hitting off the ground and off the tee.

Why I chose this club

I chose this club because I love my Cobra LTDX LS Driver. Plus, I was offered this club in two different colors—Matte Black and Gloss Navy Blue. I considered a number of other fairway woods, but some had a face too shallow and others too deep. The other closest one I came to selecting was the Cobra LTDX Fairway Wood or sticking with my original TaylorMade Sim2 Ti 3 wood.

What I love about it

  • Distance: This low-spin bomber goes crazy far, especially off the tee. When I catch this club out the middle, it is not far behind my driver in distance, so it’s definitely the longest 3 wood I’ve ever hit.
  • Feel: The feel off the face is explosive and powerful—especially when I catch one out of the middle.
  • Sound: I’m a big fan of the sound. It's more muffled than the standard LTDX Fairway, which I personally prefer.
  • Workability: If needed, I can work a draw or fade with this club simply by switching the weights. Having the heavier weight in the toe promotes more of a fade ball flight for me, and then putting the heavier weight in the heel helps me work a little bit of a draw into my swing.
  • Adjustability: This club is highly adjustable in the loft and lie angle. Further, it features two weights that can be moved from the heel and toe for one’s preferred ball flight.
  • Shaft Feel: I have definitely noticed a lower launch angle and ball flight with this shaft/head combo, which looked a little more like my driver than a traditional 3 wood. This means my spin is kept much lower than usual, giving me more carry distance and more roll-out off the fairway, boosting my overall distance.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: I love the fact that this club comes in two different color options. Matte Black and Gloss Navy Blue are both beautiful tones. Though to me, the head size seems a bit smaller than on other fairway woods.
  • Grip Feel: The Lamkin Crossline that came with the club was perfectly adequate; however, I replaced it with something midsize and a little tackier.
  • Launch Angle: This club has a low launch when compared to other fairway woods. This was very noticeable off the tee, especially, and really helped create a more penetrating ball flight for me.
  • Spin: I see much lower spin compared to most fairway woods. This is particularly pleasing for me, as I tend to generate too much spin on the majority of fairway woods. Therefore my distance with this particular club is way higher on average—I would say a good 10–20 yards gained.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Forgiveness: There are many fairway woods that are more forgiving, but this club is plenty forgiving enough for low handicappers or good ball strikers. When I don’t catch one out of the middle, it does tend to dive out of the air a little quickly, and I don’t get the crazy distance I achieve when hitting out or close to the middle of the face. However, I am still able to keep the majority of my shots straight enough to hit fairways or not get myself into trouble.
  • Shaft Performance: Some may want a shaft that is more mid-spin and launch when paired with this low-spin fairway wood—especially if they are struggling to get enough spin or launch the ball high enough. When pairing this with a mid-launch shaft, I did notice that off-centered hits were a little more forgiving, as they had enough spin on them. However, I couldn’t quite get the crazy distances I was achieving with the low-spin Tensei shaft this club came with.

Best shot with this club

I was playing a scramble, and on a long second shot into a far par 5 after a great drive, we decided to try and go for the green. I stepped up and put the ball to within 10 feet from 263 yards out. It set us up for an eagle on a hole that I usually have to lay up and settle for a birdie putt at best.

Value for the money vs. other options

The Cobra LTDX Fairway Wood lineup, in general, shows great value for the money and performs just as well as any other brand. Having an LTDX Max, LTDX, and LTDX LS (low spin) means there’s a club for everyone, and selling them in two different color options means the average golfer has options. I was previously using the TaylorMade Sim2 Ti woods, but prefer the Cobra LTDX LS. This is due to the Cobra’s slightly shallower clubface, which makes it a little easier to hit off the deck. Further, the Cobra is also not so shallow that it doesn’t give me confidence off the tee. The LS version offers slightly lower spin than the Sim2 Ti, in my opinion, but this could also be affected by the type of shaft one pair with it.

Final verdict

The Corba LTDX LS is a fantastic club for low handicappers. It provides great sound and feel, is a low-spin bomber that is plenty workable, and offers more than enough forgiveness for better players.
