What I was looking for

I intended for this pan to be my morning egg pan—which it works really well for. But now, I use it for a lot more than I thought I would, like browning and searing meats and vegetables.

Why I chose this Cookware

I was intrigued by the ceramic non-stick technology, and wanted to add a ceramic fry pan to my cookware collection. I also looked at GreenPan before deciding on Caraway. But I particularly liked the aesthetics of Caraway cookware, so the hardest part was choosing which color I wanted. I ended up going with Marigold.

What I love about it

  • Durability: When my fry pan arrived, it was packaged really well. I have used this fry pan very often throughout the past two years and the non-stick surface has remained like new.
  • Versatility: I can do a lot with this single pan. I tackle breakfast almost exclusively with it. Browning meats and vegetables is also very simple in this pan, and I like that the clean up is super easy.
  • Look: I like the look of this cookware, and I think it is nice that the sets come in so many different colors so that people have a lot of options to buy what would look best in their kitchen.
  • Weight and Size: The cookware is light enough to handle easily but still substantial enough to withstand regular cooking. I can easily turn and pour the contents of the pan if needed.
  • Performance on Cooking Surfaces: I have used this pan on an electric glass top as well as gas, and it performs well on both. This pan takes a few minutes to heat up, but I found that it holds on to the heat well after removing it from the burner. The heat distribution is even; I have not experienced hot spots.
  • Ease of Cleaning: The ease of cleaning might be its best feature. I wait until the pan cools then simply run it under warm water. Or, I use soap and a soft sponge as needed, then towel dry.
  • Applications: This cookware is good for most everyday cooking. I make eggs, bacon, pancakes, vegetables, meats, and grilled sandwiches in this pan.
  • Quality of Materials: This pan features a high-quality ceramic interior and a well-made exterior. The colored glaze on the exterior holds up well. I have not experienced scratching or chipping.
  • Warranty: Caraway offers a limited one-year warranty to U.S. residents who are using their products for home use. If there is a manufacturing problem, they will replace it upon receipt of proof of purchase and approval from Caraway’s warranty department.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Features: This pan also comes with a cork trivet.** **Though I would like the pan to have a lid included and a small gripping surface across from the handle for easier handling.
  • Handling: The handle is made from stainless steel and does not stay completely cool. It gets really hot until about halfway up the handle. I use a hand towel if I need to touch the handle while I am cooking.
  • Other: Some things that are not talked about often with Caraway pans are that the ceramic surface gets really hot. I never bring my heat past medium, even if I want to sear steak. Also, using any type of synthetic cooking spray on the ceramic surface will ruin it. I only use butter or olive oil, however, most of the time there is no need to use any fat when cooking with this pan.

Favorite moment with this cookware

I was really excited the first time I made an omelet in this pan. I used cubed ham, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, eggs and sharp, white cheddar cheese. I was able to easily sautè the vegetables and meat. When I added the eggs to the pan, they spread evenly, and as soon as they were set, the omelet slid around the pan easily. I added the cheese and topped it with a sliced avocado. As I ate my omelet, the pan cooled, and when it was time for cleaning up, all it took was a quick swipe with a soapy sponge, then rinse and towel dry.

Value for the money vs. other options

Caraway is one of the more expensive brands offering ceramic non-stick cookware. The aesthetics are what a lot of us are looking at when we choose Caraway. I have been happy with the look and performance of my Caraway cookware. I have added pieces of cookware and bakeware since I purchased this pan, and I have been very happy with them all. Though there are a lot of brands releasing ceramic cookware at this time. One of the pioneers in this type of cookware technology is GreenPan. They have some very successful product lines and are coming out with new types of cookware all the time. They have a wider selection of cookware materials and can offer an array of price ranges. If someone is looking for a stainless steel exterior, for instance, or a lower-priced product, I would recommend checking out GreenPan.

Final verdict

I have owned my Caraway Home 10.5” Fry Pan for about two years now, and I have been really happy with the way it performs. I make all kinds of food with this pan and I have not made anything in it that has not turned out great. The final thought is that it is an easy and versatile pan.

The truth about me is, when I started my learning journey in the kitchen, I couldn't boil water. My cooking expertise was nonexistant. Through a lot of studying, trial and error, and good old fashond work I've developed a pretty good skill level as a home cook and baker. Unless my family and friends are really good actors they seem to really enjoy my food. What I realized early on is that if I wanted to achieve my goals as a great home cook, I had to have the right tools. Just like a carpenter can't produce a great piece of furniture with a dull saw or nails that are not the right size, a cook cannot produce a great dish without the right cookware and the tools designed for the job. Over the course of the past few years I have familiarized myself with just about every product on the market for cooks and bakers. I led sales as a Kitchen Department Specialist at my local Crate&Barell store. I have a wide range of knowledge to help you find the right fit for your needs and level of expertise.
