About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf irons, which I tested for 3 days in April of 2023.

My take

The Callaway Women's Rogue ST Max OS Lite is an iron for higher-handicap and beginner female golfers. With the ultra-lightweight shaft and head, this club can help take strokes off of anyone's game. It's great for getting the ball up in the air with consistent ball speeds to get the most out of every shot.

What I was looking for

I was looking at options for the most forgiving and farthest iron available. A club that is built to make golf easier for the player.

Why I chose to test this club

I liked the Rogue ST Max OS clubhead weight paired with the light shaft. It made it easy to swing and I could feel the ball being launched off the face, even on mishits. I was also looking at the TaylorMade Stealth irons and the Titleist T300. I found the Callaway Rogue ST to have a more confidence-inspiring look and feel, along with more forgiveness than either of the other two options.

What I love about it

  • Distance: The Rogue ST Max OS Lite is a strong-lofted set that wants to send the ball far down the fairway. I love seeing its high and straight ball flight on most shots.
  • Forgiveness: This club is my new definition of forgiveness. On both toe and heel hits, it still provides fast ball speeds, which is something I really look for in a club. I love how I can trust it no matter where I hit the ball in the face.
  • Feel: The cavity back design still allows for loads of feel with this iron. I can immediately feel which part of the clubface I make contact with.
  • Sound: The acoustics of the Rogue ST are clean, crisp, and satisfying. It’s one of those clubs that I hit and am rewarded with confidence when I hear the crack of the golf ball off the face.
  • Shaft Feel: I love how I can feel the flex at the transition point, loaded with tons of potential energy that unleashes fury towards the ball at contact.
  • Shaft Performance: The Project X Cypher Black 40 is an exceptional shaft that provides high launch and high spin for players looking for extra help getting the ball up. It’s consistent and super lightweight, which makes it loveable for slower-swinging players.
  • Grip Feel: The stock grip is a nice and soft, standard-size Callaway Universal. I like how I can light-grip the club and still feel connected.
  • Launch Angle: The launch angle is around 20°—optimal launch, high ball flight for maximum carry distance of about 185 yards. I like to see my launch angle with a 7 iron to be around 18–22º.
  • Spin: I was able to get around 5500–6000 spin with the 7 iron. It was pretty nice seeing the ball not roll out too far. I like these numbers because I know when I’m taking an approach shot, the ball will actually be around the area it lands, and not 20 yards off the back of the green. It helps keep the ball under control on windy days, too. Depending on what type of ball I decide to play can cause results to vary as well.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Workability: The Rogue ST Max OS Lite is not a player’s iron that allows the player to work the ball. It’s fine for a slight 5–15 yard draw/fade, but is ultimately designed to create a high and straight ball flight
  • Adjustability: The iron is fixed to the shaft, so there’s no adjustability with it. This is not really an issue, as all irons work this way.

Best shot with this club

When I was testing this iron, I hit more than 50 shots and they were pretty average until I was really going for a hard compression and high-spin shot. I knew I had hit one on the screws when the sound was clearly more powerful than any of the others I had just hit, and the shot carried 190 yards. I was blown away by the performance of the club altogether.

Value for the money vs. other options

I compared the 2022 Callaway Rogue ST, the 2022 TaylorMade Stealth, and the 2021 Titleist T300. Being the middle option in terms of price, I think the Rogue ST Max OS is by far the best choice out of these three. The Stealth Irons go far but don’t give the player the same satisfaction on well-struck shots and don’t have as good of a sound. The Titleist T300 irons are forgiving but are quite large and thick clubhead, which isn’t as appealing to a lot of golfers.

Final verdict

The Rogue ST MAX OS Lite is the pinnacle of distance and forgiveness in super game improvement irons. Everything from the heavy sole weighting to the top line appeal, this iron will take strokes off one’s game.
