What I was looking for

When I first started looking at the Edel EAS putters, I was looking for something that I could aim more confidently. I was struggling to commit to my targets on the green and, as a result, was missing a lot of short putts.

Why I chose this club

I settled on the Edel EAS 5.0 because I can aim it much more accurately. I have a tendency to aim right of my target and add loft. The combination of the EAS 5.0 head with the single alignment dot on the top immediately fixed this tendency. I tested out the other head shapes offered by Edel, as well as the Scotty Cameron X5.5, but nothing could give me the right aim like the Edel EAS 5.0.

What I love about it

  • Face Feel: The feel of this putter is absolutely amazing. The head is made from 303 Japanese Stainless Steel and has a hex-machined face. The combination of these aspects makes the face feel like butter, even on mishit putts.
  • Forgiveness: The EAS 5.0 is one of the most forgiving putters I’ve ever used. The head shape, as well as the adjustable weight technology, allow me to maximize the MOI of the putter, resulting in off-center putts that roll with integrity. Sometimes I actually like my mishit putts better than my center strikes.
  • Weight: The weight of this putter is totally customizable based on one’s preferences. I’m more comfortable with moderately weighted putters, which help me control my speed across varying putting surfaces. This is especially important since I play on different courses where the greens can be slower and faster. I went with the 345g head (they range from 340–360g).
  • Alignment: Edel offers several alignment options based on what helps one aim best. I went with the single alignment on the top and none on the bottom, as I prefer a more minimalist look. Options go from no alignment aids to three on top and three on the bottom. Three and three are going to be best for those who like aids, like the Odyssey Triple Track. One can buy additional alignment plates and swap them out if one wants to play around with what works best for them.
  • Length: Edel Golf makes their putters in 33–36”. Given that I’m only 5’6” and my wingspan is a little longer than my height, I went with the 33” variation. This lets me get into a comfortable set-up position with my eyes over the ball.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The aesthetics of this putter are fantastic. The head design is simple without too much excess material being used. I have always been a fan of more classic head design shapes, and the 5.0 is just that for me. I love looking down and seeing the simple mallet design behind the ball.
  • Grip Feel: Edel offers several grip options in size and shape. They offer slim, regular, and oversize sizes. And they offer a round and flat front for shape. I went with the round, regular-size grip. The round grip is something very unique and allows me to aim the putter a little better. With the flat front, my hands can get locked into a position, which is great for my stroke, but often leads to poor alignment. By having the round grip, I get to feel where the face is aimed a little more, and as a result, I make more confident strokes.
  • Customization: When I ordered my putter, I also had the lie angle slightly flatter than standard and the loft slightly lower than standard. These are things that work well for me and my stroke. If one likes to stand closer or further from the ball or notices some excess skipping early in the roll, these are things one might want to look into.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Offset: One issue with the aesthetics I’ve run into from time to time is the zero offset. It’s certainly something I had to get used to, as 99.9% of putters have some kind of offset (unless using a center-shaft putter). Early on, it looked like the putter head was constantly aimed left. This was because of how used to my blade putter I was and the amount of offset I had. Once I got used to it, it wasn’t a problem to look at.

Best Putt or Round with this Putter

The best putt I’ve hit with this putter was in a tournament in Florida. I wasn’t playing well but managed to make a 50-footer that went uphill, downhill, and left to right. That’s a putt I usually struggle with, so making that was huge.

Value for the money vs. other options

The value for the money on the Edel EAS 5.0 is great. Based on how highly customizable this putter is and the quality of the materials, the price point is super fair. It’s in line with Scotty Cameron on pricing, but with a bunch of personalization that will make it perform better than a Scotty. The only putters that come close on value would be Odyssey. Odyssey has a ton of different models with head shapes and alignment options, and they are a little cheaper. Where Edel still passes Odyssey, in my mind, is the customization of alignment. I’ve been in love with an Odyssey head shape before but had to settle for one with alignment options different from what I wanted. With Edel, I can order with whichever alignment option I want; and if I don’t like it, I can swap out the alignment plate.

Final verdict

For those struggling to aim the putter or who always find themselves second-guessing where they’re aimed, this is a putter to consider. This putter unlocks one’s ability to aim correctly, which will have one holing more putts in no time.
