Brand Claims

What does Atomic claim about this ski? [Hayden]: Atomic claims that the Bent 100 is that all-mountain tool. The lightweight wood core lets you slash, they say slarve, and carve, and turn all over the mountain. Chris Benchetler is a surfer. He designs these skis. He helps build the shape, it shows. Keep up the great work buddy. He also does the graphics. He is not only a phenomenal skier, he is also an unreal artist. These guys, it looks sweet. They're not only a ski that's fun to ride, but they're fun to look at.

Overall Impressions

What is your overall impression of the ski? [Hayden]: I woke up in the morning, saw the snow report, and got really fired up that I’d have some power skis to test in the powder. My overall impression was whoa, it was sweet in powder. It is a super fun, easy turning ski. You don't necessarily need to lay it on edge. You can kind of just like weasel your way around the mountain. These things checked all the boxes for me. I had an absolute blast.

How does the shape of the ski affect the way it rides? [Hayden]: So a little bit about the ski tech here. As you can see, you have generous powder rocker in the tip. We have a good amount of camber underfoot and then down at the back you get a little bit of a rise in the tail for some switch power skiing.

Carving

How does the ski turn?

[Hayden]: So as far as carving goes, all that camber underfoot, they held an edge great. Note that we weren't on hard, icy conditions today.

What about dampness? Any chatter in the skis?

[Hayden]: It was a really soft day, so I didn't experience too much chatter. But towards the end of the day, when it got to be a little bit hard packed, these did get a little bit of chatter.

Freestyle

How is it for freestyle skiing?

[Hayden]: So as far as freestyle is concerned with the Bent 100, if you're a freestyle skier guy or gal, consider these skis for your slightly wider all-mountain weapon.

Could you speak about playfulness and pop?

[Hayden]: These things have a good amount of pop. They were really just forgiving, surfy like if you like to do nose butters or tail butters or want to learn how to do them. Definitely doable on the Bent 100.

Is it good for skiing switch?

[Hayden]: So as far as skiing switch on the Bent 100s, it's definitely doable, especially because you got that horizon tech in the tail and the tip. So if you find yourself riding switch in tracked powder and you hit that powder switch, you will still be fine.

How is the ski with jumps?

[Hayden]: As far as jumps are concerned with the Atomic Bent 100, you do not need to be afraid. These things are stable underfoot, and they'll have your back. Where they aren't going to be very good, is hitting like the bigger terrain park jumps. Just because they have a lightweight wood core. If you do happen to land a little front or back, you might feel that give, so it's not going to be there for you. But as far as hitting backcountry jumps into the powder sidecountry jumps into the powder side, side hits, little jibs on the groomers, rollers, these skis were super fun and playful.

One thing to mention is the cool graphics on the bottom, which is neat if you go upside down like I like to. It has the horizon tech not only in the tip but also the tail. While the Atomic Maverick 88 TIs, they only had them in the tip up top here. So with the horizon tech in the tip and the tail, this is going to allow the skier to land those deeper POW landings with a little bit more confidence because you're going to have that float in the tail as well as in the tip.

Freeride

How is it in powder?

[Hayden]: We got to test these in prime powder conditions and they knocked it out of the park. These were just real easy skiing.

How is it in uneven terrain and chunder?

[Hayden]: Now, what it's not going to do, it's not going to bust that crud. It's going to give a little bit.

How is it skiing in the trees? How is its maneuverability?

[Hayden]: The lightweight wood core makes it just super easy to maneuver. It's 100 millimeters at the waist, but I found it really easy edge to edge. It's kind of soft in the tip and tail, and it's a little stiffer underfoot to give you a little bit of more confidence. This is going to create a really forgiving ski. They were really easy and surfy in the moguls, you could kind of get a rhythm going, and then same even in the trees where we were finding some other stashes.

What terrain is this ski good for?

[Hayden]: So the terrain I recommend the Atomic Belt 100 for is going to be everything outside skiing on strictly groomers and really hard snow. Where the ski really, really shines is anywhere on the mountain if it's a softer snowpack day.

If I was going on a ski trip and I only wanted to take one pair of skis, I would definitely consider taking the Atomic Bent 100. These things can handle just about everything. If I'm going to be skiing, you know, laps with my wife on the groomers, they do all right. Then when she goes in for lunch, I can either get a park lap in or go hit some of the steeper side country stuff. These are definitely a super versatile fun option.

What terrain should skiers avoid with it?

[Hayden]: Since this has no metal in the core, it's not going to be the best ski for those harder days.

Recommendations

Who would you recommend these skis to?

[Hayden]: I recommend these to a wide range of skiers. If you're an intermediate skier and you're looking for something that you know can handle off-trail skiing, but you're still mainly skiing on-trail, this is definitely going to be a very approachable ski for you to start progressing off piste and getting into those power stashes that everybody's been talking about.

Who should avoid these skis, there are better options out there for them?

[Hayden]: Who I wouldn't recommend the Atomic Bent 100 to are really tall, heavier skiers and riders that are finding themselves more on trail and don't ski off trail. There are other skis from Atomic and other brands that are just going to be better for that type of skiing.
