What I was looking for

I was looking to test out beginner and intermediate golf sets to see which ones are the best for golfers looking to get their first set or upgrade from their old gear. I wanted something affordable and high-quality that would last for years.

Why I chose this club set

I bought this set because it has a very simple and clean look with a shiny silver color. This 11-piece set provides beginner golfers with the clubs they need to play a full round of golf.

What I love about it

  • Distance: These clubs are not the longest-distance clubs by any means. However, they certainly pack a punch and are great for a beginner golfer because the ball jumps off the clubface to help add some distance.
  • Forgiveness: Like distance, the set does not contain the most forgiving possible clubs on the market. However, for its price, there is nothing better for forgiveness than these clubs. In addition, they are very forgiving on both toe and heel shots, which is great for beginner golfers looking for a cheap set to get into playing golf. The biggest thing I noticed about these clubs is that they help minimize a slice, a common problem for beginner golfers.
  • Feel: The RBZ clubs feel surprisingly good. They have a soft and explosive feel. The driver and woods feel like the ball jumps off the clubface for added distance, while the irons feel very smooth and soft.
  • Sound: These clubs sound very traditional to most golf clubs. They do not have the same loud explosive sound that higher-end clubs have, but they sound very solid and complete. I have not hit a shot with these clubs where they didn't sound good.
  • Workability: As mentioned, this 11-piece set provides golfers with all the necessary clubs to begin playing golf. This is the perfect amount of clubs for beginners to fit all the distance gaps to play the best golf. These clubs are extremely workable and allow players to play their best golf.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The RBZ golf clubs are nothing special in design, with a simple silver look to the irons and wedges and a matte black crown on the driver. However, that is not a bad thing. These clubs look great and will add confidence to any player.
  • Launch Angle: These clubs launch really well. On all of the clubs in this set, the weight is pulled back and low to help maximize forgiveness and launch. The weight is mainly in the back of the club and moves the center of gravity (CG) lower, which helps launch the ball higher in the air. The weight in the back of the club is extremely important for all golfers, especially beginners, to help launch the ball higher.
  • Customization: The RBZ Speedlite set comes in Senior, Regular, and Stiff flexes with the option between graphite and steel shafts.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Adjustability: There are no adjustability options with this set of clubs.
  • Shaft Feel: These shafts sometimes feel too soft for my liking. I like a firm, hard feeling with my club shafts, and these shafts sometimes felt a little too soft and whippy. However, that is very helpful for most beginner golfers.
  • Shaft Performance: The shafts are not the best, especially for someone with higher swing speeds. However, these shafts are great for players who need help launching the ball higher and increasing clubhead speed.
  • Grip Feel: The grips on these clubs feel fine initially. However, the grips wear out very quickly and must be replaced within the first few months. I recommend using the grips until they wear out and re-gripping these clubs with a higher-end grip that will last years.
  • Spin: This set's driver, woods, and irons spin too much for me. However, this is helpful for beginners because the high spin with the driver and woods will help with accuracy, and the higher spin with the irons will help hold greens.

Best shot with this club

The best shot I hit with this set of clubs was on a short par 4 that I could make an eagle on. The par 4 was 320 yards, and I hit the driver and was left with about 30 yards to the pin. I chose to hit the sand wedge in the set and ended up chipping in.

Value for the money vs. other options

The TaylorMade RBZ Speedlite set is not the first set I would recommend for new golfers. The quality is lower than sets from new brands like Robin Golf and Stix. There is a nine-piece set from Robin with a bag for around $900 and an 11-piece set with a bag from Stix for about $949 that are higher in quality and more affordable options for beginner and intermediate golfers alike.

Final verdict

The TaylorMade RBZ Speedlite 11-piece set is great for beginner and intermediate golfers. This set comes with a driver, 3 wood, 4 hybrid, 6-9 irons, a pitching wedge, and a sand wedge—the perfect amount of clubs to begin playing golf.
