4.2/5
The Mizuno ST-X 220 Fairway Wood is an excellent choice for mid-to-high handicappers seeking an easy-to-launch, forgiving club. It offers consistent high launch and a draw-biased ball flight, making it ideal for those looking to reduce slices and improve distance. The club's forgiving nature ensures that off-center hits still provide good launch and maintain distance. While it's not the most workable club, it excels in simplicity and consistency. The ST-X 220 offers a great balance of value and performance for players prioritizing forgiveness, launch, and distance.

Expert Reviews of the Mizuno ST-X 220 Fairway Wood
Kyle Emery The Mizuno ST-X 220 Fairway Wood is an easy-to-launch option with a soft feel and a draw-biased ball flight. In my testing, I found the ST-X 220 fairway wood easy to hit and the soft feel pleasing. I highly recommend the ST-X 220 fairway wood to any mid-to-high handicap player looking for a high launching, draw bias option to use off the tee or in the fairway or rough.
Miguel B. For players needing help launching the ball high, the Mizuno STX 220 Fairway Wood is a great choice. In my testing, I found this club to be very forgiving, and its slightly larger shape and size allowed the head to glide on the turf and keep the face square. The club unlocks a high launch and has a forgiving head. Its titanium head with wave sole promotes high ball speeds even on mishits. Players with the desire to keep a mid to low launch and the ability to shape left to right and right to left may want a different head. This is not a low-spinning fairway model. It also does not have any adjustability.
Nick Y. This product is ideal for a mid-handicapper. The Mizuno ST-X is suitable for the vast majority of players. It is more consistent, easier to hit, and has a large sweet spot.

Workability
3/5
Miguel B. gave 2 of 5 stars. The benefit to this club is its straightforward approach to hitting high shots with a draw bias. It will mitigate the effects of a slice. It wants to go high and straight. If someone has a draw, it will exaggerate it. So this club is not the most workable and not for players looking to shape shots.
Kyle Emery gave 3 of 5 stars. I'm not a player who typically likes to work the ball in both directions on command. My average shot shape is a draw, and I find the draw-bias nature of the ST-X 220 makes hitting it a breeze. The added offset on the hosel promotes more of a draw flight, making shaping shots to the right a bit more difficult for the average player.
Forgiveness
5/5
Miguel B. gave 5 of 5 stars. The footprint of the STX 3-wood is not small, but it looks smaller than it is, which is great for a game improvement wood. Having a forgiving 3-wood in a head that doesn’t look like a tennis racquet is impressive.
Kyle Emery gave 5 of 5 stars. Strikes hit off-center still have a nice high launch, maintain most of their distance, and don't go too far offline. Sometimes, consistency is hard to find with fairway woods, especially 3 woods. However, this is not the case with the ST-X 220. The higher forgiveness is my favorite overall feature of the club.
Feel
4/5
Miguel B. gave 4 of 5 stars. It’s hard to pinpoint the feel of this club. The STX 220 3-wood, being an all-metal head, lends itself to a more solid feel. Yet its level of forgiveness makes it feel somewhat springy on hits that are a little low or toward the toe. Hit it on the sweet spot, and it feels like it bounces off the face.
Sound
4/5
Miguel B. gave 3 of 5 stars. So many clubs out there have carbon crowns and even carbon soles. This all-titanium head has a slightly higher pitched "ting" to it, but it is a more solid "whack" overall. It’s refreshing to hear this solid metal sound when many other clubs sound muted and dull.
Kyle Emery gave 4 of 5 stars. While testing the Mizuno ST-X 220 3-wood, I really enjoyed the overall sound at impact. I categorize it as a clean and crisp sound on contact on center strikes and off-center hits. I believe the sound will appeal to many players.
Launch
5/5
Miguel B. gave 4 of 5 stars. This club will help players with more moderate swing speeds get the ball higher in the air and get longer carry distances. Without ballooning, the ST-X 220 drives the ball out and high while staying straight. It’s such an easy club to hit that many will enjoy its point-and-shoot simplicity.
Kyle Emery gave 5 of 5 stars. Many of the 3 woods I've tested typically come off the tee or the ground a bit lower than I would like to play. The ST-X 220 surprisingly makes launching the ball high very easy to accomplish—the deep-placed center of gravity and shorter face height assist in creating the consistently high ball flight.
Distance
4/5
Miguel B. gave 4 of 5 stars. Distance means different things to various players. Will this club be the ideal distance 3-wood of choice for a person with a swing speed over 110mph? No. However, most golfers need help with their swing speed, and this club provides distance gains for those with more moderate swing speeds. This club will help many players get quality distance in the fairway or into greens on par 5s.
Kyle Emery gave 4 of 5 stars. The Mizuno ST-X 220 3-wood has a multi-thickness CORTECH face and a full titanium body to provide players with the highest ball speed from a Mizuno fairway wood to date. Distances were competitive with other top fairway wood models during my testing.
FAQs
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Miguel B. I had a great experience using this 3-wood off the tee on a short par 4 and put it right down the middle of the fairway. The ST-X 220 could be a driver replacement for those with driver phobia.
Kyle Emery I don't have one favorite moment, but the overall consistency of the Mizuno ST-X 220 fairway wood is what stood out most to me when testing this club. Everything about my experience with the ST-X 220 fairway wood focused back on the ease of use and overall feel. Seeing a high launch with a draw flight was achieved on all of the shots with this club. I certainly can hit my fair share of bad shots and by no means have a perfect swing, but I was highly impressed with maintaining a repeatable ball flight with the ST-X 220.
Why did you choose this product?
Kyle Emery When considering a new fairway wood, my priorities focus on forgiveness, launch, distance, and feel. The Mizuno ST-X 220 was able to check off all of these boxes. During my testing, I hit the ball all over the face of the 3-wood and found a consistent ball flight on almost every swing.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Kyle Emery The Mizuno ST-X 220 is competitively priced in the category. When considering the well-rounded nature of the launch, distance, and feel elements, it's hard to find an all-around better option for a cheaper price point.
What do you love about this product?
Miguel B. I love this driver’s high launch with a penetrating trajectory and forgiveness.
Kyle Emery Ultimately, I enjoyed a lot about the ST-X 220 from testing. The higher level of forgiveness, higher ball flight, and soft feel were all things that stood out to me as key features of this Mizuno fairway wood.
