Looking for a new pair of golf shoes? Waterproof golf shoes are an important part of making your golf round the best it can be. Many golf companies offer waterproof shoes, including Ecco, Adidas, Skechers, Puma, Nike, New Balance, and Footjoy.

As a golf professional and teacher for over ten years, I’ve had the opportunity to use many different golf shoes for teaching and playing. Waterproof golf shoes keep your feet protected in all situations and offer a quiet confidence while playing. Even though the forecast might not call for rain, there are still situations in which waterproof golf shoes protect your feet from that soggy, wet feeling that can ruin a nice round of golf.

Early morning tee times on golf courses often bring dew and condensation, and the grass is wet until it burns off in the morning. Ever find yourself looking for a golf ball in the water, and your feet accidentally sink into wet sand or dirt?

How about when the sprinklers turn on randomly so the grass is wet? Casual water area, which is sometimes a surprise until you walk toward your ball and feel the water rising from the ground unexpectedly. And, of course, there is the out-of-nowhere rain that wasn't forecasted. Wearing a great pair of waterproof shoes in these wet conditions would minimize discomfort and increase traction and stability.

The best waterproof golf shoes offer GORE-TEX materials, breathability, and a solid grip. Some golfers may prefer lightweight, full-grain leather and cushion to help their golf swing when the grass is wet. The most important thing to remember is to have comfortable shoes that won't hurt your feet after many hours on the golf course.

Considerations for Waterproof Golf Shoes

1. Waterproof Warranty

There are typically two different waterproof warranties available. There are two-year and one-year warranties depending on the shoe. The better golf shoes will generally have a two-year warranty.

Warranties can vary from shoe to shoe and company. Ensure the registration and warranty are completed and submitted to minimize any hassles if you need to use the warranties.

2. Comfort

Golfer's feet come in all shapes and sizes, and so do golf shoes. Some prefer the feeling of premium leather, soft spikes, leather uppers, or spikeless shoes. Others might want soles with cleats, a wide-toe box, or foam insoles. Consider how often you play. Do you walk or ride a cart mostly? Do you need extra relief in the heel? Do you like traditional laces or boa lace types?

The best golf shoes will be comfortable. A spikeless golf shoe will be very comfortable, but will it offer you the grip you need when playing in wet conditions? Fit for comfort first, then determine everything else.

3. Cleats or Spikeless?

In recent years spikeless golf shoes have become popular because you can go from the 18th hole straight to the 19th hole without having to change your shoes. This can be very convenient and just one less thing to think about in life. The trade-off is how much grip you will feel when playing, whether in dry or wet conditions.

Serious golfers tend to use cleats to ensure the best grip. Recreational golfers will lean toward spikeless soles for comfort and convenience. This ultimately comes down to personal preference. Which shoe is better for your game?

Top Waterproof Golf Shoe Recommendations

The following are my recommendations for the most comfortable shoes with waterproof technology. They are separated by spiked and spikeless models:

Spikeless Golf Shoes

1. ECCO Golf Biom C4 Shoe

These shoes are by far my favorite spikeless model. The waterproofing is second to none, and above all, they are comfortable. Breathable and flexible, a lot of technology is packed into these shoes, yet they are still light and stable.

GORE-TEX Surround provides full waterproof protection and breathability. ECCO MTN GRIP offers the support and traction necessary to keep the feet stable throughout the swing.

One thing to keep in mind is that these shoes are available in European sizes, which are a bit different than U.S. sizes. Available in four different color combinations, these shoes are worth a look.

2. Skechers GO GOLF Torque-Twist Shoes

Skechers shoes are known for providing a lot of cushion and comfort. These waterproof shoes offer many reasons to be in your closet. The sneaker style is a favorite among golfers. They are lightweight and boast a spikeless or spiked sole. The spikes are removable, thus making these a hybrid shoe.

What I really like about this shoe is the twist lace system. It’s easy and secure compared to traditional laces. The technology for these shoes is from Softspikes, and their performance insert system (PINS) works very well.

3. Footjoy Pro SL Sport

Footjoy shoes have been popular for years, and with good reason. They are a good quality shoe company. These two-year waterproof shoes offer five color combinations and a lot of comforts. The StratoFoam technology provides an advanced cushioning system in the midsole to absorb shock and minimize foot fatigue.

The Footjoy infinity outsole technology provides 189 points of traction to the sole, which keeps you balanced. The grip on the bottom is ready for any weather conditions on the course.

4. Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 OG G NRG

Let’s go back to old-school retro style and modernize it to today’s standards with one of the biggest shoe companies, Nike. The window style on the heel of the midsole was originally released in 1986. The idea was to be able to glimpse the cushioning inside the bottom of the shoe.

Offering a one-year waterproof warranty, these are comfortable, comfortable shoes. A running shoe style that is flexible and made from high-quality materials makes this a shoe to try on for space in your closet.

Spiked Golf Shoes

1. Footjoy Traditions

This traditional-looking shoe features full-grain leather and classic looks. The Footjoy Traditions are lightweight, spiked, and timeless. A one-year waterproof guarantee offers confidence that this will keep your feet dry.

The Black Widow cleats system is solid and reliable for the spikes and keeps the traction for your golf swing connected to the ground and comfortable for walking. With five color combinations to keep the variety in your golf apparel, these shoes will not let you down.

2. Sqairz Speed Bold

Sqairz is relatively new to the golf shoe market. However, they have earned the right to get a good look. I’ve owned a pair for a few months and like these shoes. The traction is solid, and I never feel any slipping on the ground. A two-year warranty will help keep your feet dry for a long time. The sole is a bit wider, giving them a platform feel when walking.

The quality of the materials is superb, and the Sta-Put Laces minimize any need to re-tie your shoes. One thing to be aware of is that they do take time to break in. These are very supportive shoes and thus do need some time to get flexible. But once they break in, they feel wonderful. Available in six different colors, there is an option for everyone.

3. ECCO Golf Biom G5 Shoe

Closer to the top end of the price range, but there is a reason for the saying, “You get what you pay for.” These golf shoes embody that quote. They boast a lot of technology, including Biom Natural Motion for support and natural movement, FluidForm, which provides cushioning, and GORE-TEX, for 100% waterproofing protection.

If you have wide feet, the washable insole is removable, offering extra space. I tend to forget that I have spikes on when I wear these. They are like an extension of my feet which is one less thing to think about on the golf course. They are available in three different color combinations, and the BOA lace system keeps your feet snug for the whole day. Try these out. They might just be what you’re looking for to make your next round a lot of fun.

4. Adidas ZG23 BOA Golf Shoes

These shoes are ultralight and comfortable for the entire round. Featuring a reliable and easy-to-use BOA lace system, this shoe has a lot of technology built in. Let’s hear it for those that need a wide fit — this shoe is for you. Six cleats keep you grounded and stable for all your swings.

The feeling is very secure when playing, and yet they are lightweight and supportive. I like the bright colors and the availability of two color combinations. The one year of waterproof protection will keep your feet ready for anything on the course. Adidas has been around for a long time, and they offer quality and performance. Give them a look and see if they can be on the course with you.
