The Curated Take

3.6/5

The Icelantic Nomad 95 is a versatile and playful ski best suited for beginner to intermediate freeskiers. Its 95mm underfoot, full rocker profile, and super soft flex rating make it exceptionally maneuverable, ideal for buttering, pressing, and jibbing. Though it lacks stability at high speeds and in deeper fresh snow, it shines in ungroomed conditions. Despite its higher price point, the Nomad 95 has good durability and is backed by a 3-year warranty. This ski is not recommended for heavier or advanced skiers seeking high-speed stability.

Ideal for
  • Park skiing: Hitting rails, buttering off knuckles, and small to medium sized jumps
  • Fully rockered shape allows for ease of pivoting motion when handling ungroomed terrain and softer snow
  • 3 year bombproof warranty and continual edge wrap has this ski on the top of the durability list
Not ideal for
  • Too soft flex rating for high speeds on hardpacked snow or ice, causing a lot of movement in the nose
  • May wash out or backslap if you land backseat on a big jump with these
  • 95mm underfoot does not offer as much float for powder deeper than 6-9" or so

Expert Reviews of the Icelantic Nomad 95 Skis

Jake Renner The 2024 Icelantic Nomad 95 are some playful sticks, super buttery with a super soft flex rating. Rest assured you can butter, press, or spin on these, and they're really fun in the park or all mountain terrain. When high speed carving, there is a little movement in the nose as they've got a little more rocker than some of your carving and performance all-mountain skis, so they might not be good for your heavier riders or more advanced skiers looking to go Mach 9 speeds. I'd recommend these for beginner to intermediate skiers looking for a playful ride or just getting into freestyle skiing and park riding. On the flip side, if you’re an advanced rider who may also prefer a softer flex rating for buttering, jibbing, and pressing your nose and tails---this ski would be spot on for you!

Review Ratings

Flotation

3/5
Jake Renner gave 3 of 5 stars. 95mm underfoot does not provide enough flotation for skiers looking to get into fresh snow deeper than 10" or so. That being said, the rocker profile of the Nomad 95 allows ease of pivoting when in ungroomed bumps, choppy snow, or light fresh snow---giving this ski an average rating with regard to flotation.

Carving

2/5
Jake Renner gave 2 of 5 stars. The Nomad 95 has a medium long turn radius, giving it an intuitive edge to edge transition. However, because of the extremely soft flex rating, this ski does not feel stable at higher speeds. With regard to high speed carving, the Nomad 95 can hold up on edge but will start to shake and chatter if flat on the snow.

High Speed Stability

2/5
Jake Renner gave 2 of 5 stars. The Nomad 95 has too soft of a flex rating for larger skiers or more aggressive skiers to hit high speed with confidence and stability. Especially on hardpacked snow, groomers, and ice patches, you get a lot of movement in the nose of the ski. If you bomb a hill and keep the ski flat, you'll notice the nose chattering a bit. This ski does better in lightly ungroomed terrain and fresh snow if you want to go fast.

Playfulness

5/5
Jake Renner gave 5 of 5 stars. With a super soft flex rating, the Nomad 95 feels extremely playful at slower speeds and when leaning into the nose or tails. Easy to press and butter on if a skier like myself, at 165lbs, decides to lean into it and flex the tails/nose. If you're over 200 lbs, this ski might feel too soft for you unless you really are looking for something soft and playful.

Durability

5/5
Jake Renner gave 5 of 5 stars. The Nomad 95, and any ski from Icelantic for that matter, is covered by a 3 year manufacturer's warranty which has me rating the durability of this ski highly. Carbonium topsheet, layers of laminates, and continual edge wrap in the tip/tail gives this ski a solid start on lasting for years to come.

Turn Ease

4/5
Jake Renner gave 4 of 5 stars. At 95mm underfoot, the Nomad 95 can initiate and exit turns with ease. To help with turn initiation, a fully rockered tip and tail with barely any camber underfoot keeps the surface area of this ski in contact with the snow. The Nomad 95 feels easy to throw side to side and turn on.

Versatility

4/5
Jake Renner gave 4 of 5 stars. The Nomad 95 holds up well in a variety of terrain and conditions, this would make a solid daily driver for freeskiers looking to get into a bit of ungroomed terrain without losing their ease of turn initiation. It's also a super playful ski that lends itself to beginner and intermediate skiers who'd prefer something to venture all over the mountain with.

FAQs

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

Jake Renner My favorite moment on the Nomad 95's was when fellow Curated Skiing Expert Hayden Wright and I specifically did our 'butter' test... we got on ski after ski and would try nose butter and tail butter 3's just to feel out how much we had to lean into our press. The Nomad 95 wanted to bend and press, it was very easy and intuitive for buttering and knuckle tricks or leaning into our presses.

Why did you choose this product?

Jake Renner I chose the Nomad 95 because it has a 3 year bombproof warranty. When looking for twin tips and freestyle skis, durability is an important factor to keep in mind. Plus, I like to keep it local when I can and support businesses in Colorado.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

Jake Renner The Icelantic Nomad 95 retails at a price that makes me weary to buy, but the 3 year warranty is really appealing. Relative to other twin tipped options in this same category, I do not think the Icelantic Nomad 95 is worth the money, unless you get a discount.

What do you love about this product?

Jake Renner The Icelantic Nomad 95 is a versatile and playful freeride tool that is easy to throw side to side, butter, and press on. Softer flex rating combined with barely any camber underfoot and full tip/tail rocker creates a super surfy and smeary ride. Easy to pivot if you're in ungroomed snow or powder less than 10" or so.
