The Curated Take

Fellow Monty mugs are a luxurious choice for coffee lovers who value aesthetics and functionality. With a minimalist, contemporary design and a clever parabolic slope that enhances latte art, these mugs make drinking coffee an experience. This mug is available in different sizes for a range of espresso beverages. Their thick, dual-walled ceramic construction ensures excellent heat retention, although pre-heating is advised for best results. Despite the high price point and plastic base, their quality and design make them worth the investment. Ideal for those who appreciate beautiful and practical coffee accessories.

Expert Reviews of the Fellow Monty Cups
Michael Stumpfig As someone who considers themselves a minimalist, the Fellow Monty mugs are the perfect vessel for my cortados and cappuccinos. The sleek contemporary design immediately drew my eye. The parabolic slope in the cup makes this the perfect mug for latte art. The crema is drawn to the top in order to layer micro-foam and achieve a beautiful design.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the weight of the Fellow Monty mugs. Weighing in at 320 grams, they feel extremely sturdy and overall very enjoyable to drink out of. And because the bottom of the mug is slightly smaller than the top, they can be easily stacked on top of each other.
The plastic bottom is probably the biggest downfall. It takes away from the overall high quality experience. However I got over that quickly, as I understand that a different surface area (ie: glass, ceramic) would be dangerous if broken.
I highly recommend this cup to any coffee drinker looking to add a strikingly simple mug to their collection.

Design
5/5
Michael Stumpfig gave 5 of 5 stars. I think these mugs are simply beautiful in their simplicity. On top of having an attractive design, the design is also functional. There is a parabolic slope in the cup that helps lift crema to the top of the mug while pouring a latte. In essence, this gives the barista a beautiful blank canvas on which to pour their latte art. A very clever and functional design.
Insulation
4/5
Michael Stumpfig gave 4 of 5 stars. Because these mugs are dual walled and made of ceramic, they are fantastic at keeping hot drinks hot. There is one caveat, though. They can actually lose heat if not pre heated. I suggest filling the cup with either hot tap water or even boiling water first. Putting a hot beverage in this cup without pre heating it will significantly cool down the beverage.
Capacity
5/5
Michael Stumpfig gave 5 of 5 stars. Whether the drink of choice is something as small as a solo espresso or a nice tall latte, the Fellow Monty mugs cover the spectrum of espresso beverages. I chose the 6.5oz mug because I enjoy a drink somewhere between a cortado and a cappuccino. But there are a few other options depending on one's preference: 3oz, 4.5oz, and 11oz.
Quality
5/5
Michael Stumpfig gave 5 of 5 stars. For the price point, this mug is on the upper tier of espresso mugs. Depending on the sizes chosen, they can run anywhere from $20-$35. The only step back in quality I see is the plastic bottom of the mug. However, I think this will actually help the mug last longer. If the mug were to fall on its plastic bottom, I would assume it would stay intact. Whereas if the bottom were made of ceramic and dropped, it would most certainly shatter.
FAQs
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Michael Stumpfig I bought two of the Fellow Monty mugs, both 6.5oz. I brought one into the cafe I work at so I could store it there and use it while working. My co-worker and fellow coffee aficionado saw me drinking from it and was immediately obsessed. We both enjoy smaller espresso beverages so we can really enjoy the flavor of our espresso. Two days later she ordered her own. Now we enjoy our drinks from the same mug when we work together.
Why did you choose this product?
Michael Stumpfig In the espresso world, there are a lot of products that can do the same thing. Obviously there are differences, but for the most part, grinders grind, machines pull shots, etc... Sometimes the decision to purchase comes down to aesthetics. And that's exactly why I chose to buy these mugs. I think they're beautiful.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Michael Stumpfig These are not the cheapest mugs in the world. I certainly wouldn't expect to see these as the standard mug in a local coffee shop. They are on the upper end of the price range for a coffee cup. That being said, I consider these mugs a luxury product. The two 6.5oz cups I purchased ran me $50. They were worth every penny.
What do you love about this product?
Michael Stumpfig The simplicity of this cup is what initially drew me to it. When I first saw it, I thought the matte black color made a bold statement. After receiving the mug, I was also pleasantly surprised by the weight of it. There's just something about holding a small heavy object that makes it feel more luxurious and quality.
