The Curated Take

3.5/5

The North Face Women's Ceptor 3L Jacket is a great choice for riders who need a reliable, durable jacket for varied conditions. It provides breathable comfort, minimizing sweat build-up with its DryVent™ 3L fabric and pit vents. Though slightly bulky and lightly insulated, the jacket allows for layering based on weather conditions. Its waterproof properties make it suitable for wet conditions, and its durability ensures it holds up well even with regular use. Its aesthetics, although slightly boxy, offer a range of color choices for different styles.

Expert Reviews of the The North Face Women's Ceptor Jacket

Jessica B. The Ceptor jacket is designed to keep riders warm in cold weather. It features high-quality insulation and a durable outer shell that helps trap heat and block wind. The jacket is treated with a water-repellent finish, protecting against light rain and snow. It helps keep me dry in wet conditions. While the jacket offers water resistance, it is not fully waterproof. Some moisture may eventually seep through in heavy rain or prolonged exposure to wet conditions. While the jacket provides excellent warmth, it can be slightly bulky due to the insulation. This might affect mobility or layering options depending on one's preferences.
Lindsay Donahue This jacket is so comfortable. It has great waterproofing. It's great in mild to chilly weather. It may not be warm enough in very cold weather, but it may be if base layers are adequate. It has a pit vent, but the material doesn't breathe well, so if it is a really warm day, it does get hot. Overall, it's a great waterproof shell. I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

Review Ratings

Breathability

4/5
Jessica B. gave 4 of 5 stars. It is designed to allow water vapor from the inside to pass to the outside, limiting the potential for sweat build-up within the jacket and feeling clammy. It has pit vents, making it easy for riders to control body temperature and allow for a breeze when the sun is blazing.

Comfort

3/5
Jessica B. gave 3 of 5 stars. This jacket is very comfortable and has various features and ample pockets that make it a convenient choice as well. I love a jacket with lots of pockets so I can keep track of where my phone, pass, wallet, and keys are at all times! It is a little bulky but not so much that it intrudes on performance.

Warmth

3/5
Jessica B. gave 3 of 5 stars. This jacket feels more like a shell, so if someone gets cold easily, they will need to layer according to conditions. I usually wear this jacket with a T-shirt in the spring, and I am comfortable. Still, riders may need a few layers to brace the elements in colder conditions.

Durability

4/5
Jessica B. gave 4 of 5 stars. I have worn this jacket in various conditions, and it has held up well. This jacket has held up where other jackets have gotten nicked on trees. It has reinforced seams that help limit tears from normal wear. I've had other jackets that feel like they are falling apart at the end of the season, but this jacket is still in great condition.

Aesthetics

4/5
Jessica B. gave 4 of 5 stars. While I have more of a basic color, my coworker has this jacket in lavender, and people are always impressed and commenting on the color. While the Ceptor is less form-fitting than some other jackets may be, it looks good enough to wear out into town after finishing up on the slopes, and there are plenty of color options for people with different styles.

Waterproofing

3/5
Jessica B. gave 3 of 5 stars. The DryVent™ 3L will keep riders dry and comfortable in a variety of weather conditions. Since it is considered fully waterproof, it is ideal for heavy rain or sustained wear in wet conditions. Still, it may begin to feel damp after a few hours. I have worn it in hail storms in the spring, and it has held up well.

FAQs

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

Jessica B. My favorite moment in this jacket was hiking up a backyard park me and my buddies built. It was warm enough to keep me cozy once the sun started to set but didn't have me sweating while hiking.

Why did you choose this product?

Jessica B. The day started out warm, and we were mostly in the park, but it became very windy, so my friend let me borrow this jacket. It is windproof yet breathable enough to maintain mobility.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

Jessica B. It compares well to other options on the market. I got this jacket during a sale, so I am unsure if I would have bought it at full price.
