Its design ensures accurate placement, with a large round grip aiding hand alignment. Expert Reviews of the Edel Golf EAS 4 Putter
Evan Mendyk The Edel EAS 4 Putter is an exceptional performer in all categories. This putter has felt great in my hands since I bought it for many reasons. First, this putter sits very squarely on the ground, which helps me align the putter correctly. My putter has a top line and flange line that I make sure are even with each other, which also helps align the putter and checks if my eyes are properly over the ball. The feel and sounds of this putter surprised me at first as it has a hollow feeling and a higher-pitched click at impact. I have never had a putter that feels this good. The grip on my putter is the large round grip from Edel. I like how this grip feels in my hand and helps me align my palms to each other. This putter also has great customization. I have an added weight in the grip to balance the putter's weight.
I also opted to purchase the weight kit with this putter and frequently change the weights depending on the green speed of the course I am playing. I like the custom features because they give me more options for a putter that fits my game.
Calvin Max The Edel EAS 4 is an exceptional flat stick. The styling first drew me in because I had seen it before in photos. Still, I didn't recognize it in person because the total package is far smaller than in pictures. The face seems scantly larger than the width of the ball at address. The furthest test putts I hit were in the 50ft range, and I had no trouble generating the power to get the ball there, but I think on really long putts, I may find myself off-center more. However small it may be, it has an obvious weight when I hold the grip.
It seems so small visually because the edges are very rounded, so although the mass is there, the eye has trouble fully picking up its true size. My only hesitation is that there needs to be more feeling in the putter. It feels dead through impact. It's okay, but it's not something I am personally looking for in my gamer. This putter would be a great fit in the bag of virtually any high handicapper, and most mid-to-high single-digit putters would be happy with it.

Forgiveness
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. The thing that impresses me most about this putter is its saintly forgiveness. During testing, I had an ongoing issue keeping the face square, but it didn't matter. It first seemed to self-correct during my stroke, but there was enough inertia, even on off-center and off-angle strikes, that the ball still rolled (mostly) straight.
Evan Mendyk gave 4 of 5 stars. The Edel EAS 4 has a single heel weight and some weight removed from the toe of the putter, which helps to keep the face square throughout the stroke. This putter is very forgiving, and I have seen consistent distance control on all strikes. This putter has helped me improve my speed control because of the forgiveness on mishits.
Alignment
5/5
Calvin Max gave 4 of 5 stars. This putter is easy to align with the correct start line, but not as easy as I expected to get the face square. During testing, I would look at the hole, trace the line with my eyes, and then look down at the putter to notice it was ever so slightly off-square with the face. This putter is especially sensitive to how a grip is put on and perhaps best with an oversized grip, as opposed to a pistol-style putter grip.
Evan Mendyk gave 5 of 5 stars. The Edel EAS 4 helps improve alignment in several ways. First, this putter's geometry allows the player to see when the putter is set square to the ground and target. The alignment plate is the ideal golf ball width, which helps improve strike location and aim. The custom options on the alignment plate give players a variety of different lines and dots to choose from to help improve their aim at the target.
Grip
4/5
Calvin Max gave 3 of 5 stars. I tested with a pistol-style putter grip, which I suspect contributed to a strange phenomenon. Every time I looked down, the putter moved slightly off the square. It was an easy fix, but something I could easily lose track of throughout the round to disastrous effect. The grip was high quality, so I suspect my issue was born from the slightly off-center installation. If I were set on a pistol grip, I would have made the retailer install a replacement before leaving with a new, very expensive putter.
Evan Mendyk gave 5 of 5 stars. I opted for a large round grip on the Edel EAS 4. This grip is a soft rubber that feels nice in the hands and helps me to soften my grip pressure. This grip also helps me align my palms to each other, and I really enjoy how my hands grip the putter compared to a traditional putter grip.
Feel
3/5
Calvin Max gave 3 of 5 stars. Dead in hand is how I would describe this putter. Some may not mind, but I care immensely. During testing, I could not feel the ball come off the face at all, and on some putts, I found myself almost confused about it. People who putt longer regularly would come to enjoy it, but it simply was not for me.
Evan Mendyk gave 3 of 5 stars. The Edel EAS 4 has a different feel than I have experienced with other putters. This putter sounds and feels like a hollow head, but the strike feels solid because of the weight of the putter. Typically, a hollow feeling and clicking sound from a putter means less stability for me, but this is not the case with the Edel EAS 4.
Balance
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. I think a lot of what causes people to hitch a putter stroke is the putter being too light and too big. Either of those things can cause it all to come undone, and for most people, both are in play. This EAS 4 is a neat solution to those issues. The weight and compact package conspire with the face balancing to make a stable platform that balances like a dream.
Evan Mendyk gave 5 of 5 stars. The Edel EAS 4 has many custom options, but I think the weight system is most beneficial. This putter allows one to place the weight in the head and various locations within the grip. The custom options really help to dial in the ideal balance of this putter for each player.
FAQs
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Calvin Max It is not every day that I make many or even a few long putts. In fact, I can probably think of every putt I have made outside 10 feet, and I don't need the fingers on both hands to count them. Fortunately, I don't miss by that much, so I score okay. However, I have always known that, on some level, I could be far better if only a few of my wayward putts dropped every round. The first time I rolled this putter, I went on a six-ball make streak, and by the seventh, I was fairly certain I missed to make sure that I still could. That little episode in an otherwise forgettable day went a long way to establishing some confidence on the putting green.
Evan Mendyk My favorite moment with the Edel EAS 4 was making a 30-foot eagle putt on the final hole of a tournament to get into a playoff. This putter gave me so much confidence in my sim and speed.
Why did you choose this product?
Calvin Max I had meant to test an Edel putter for a long time, long enough that I had forgotten where I first encountered them. But when I saw the whole lineup of the EAS putters recently, my hands went straight to the 4. Normally, when I see a putter of this shape, it is sharp. The edges are sharp, and the styling is sharp. There is some of that on the Edel, particularly around the cavity behind the face. Still, overall, the edges are rounded and very pleasing. Instead of getting stuck on edges, my eyes better accepted the totality of the putter at address behind the ball, freeing up my mind to focus on the ball.
Evan Mendyk I chose this product because it helped me aim at my target more effectively, and the weighting of this putter improved my speed control.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Calvin Max In terms of value, Edel falls short. Although they are certainly a premium manufacturer, they aren't technologically superior to anyone else on the market, so it would be nice to see them compete on price a little bit. I understand entirely that would maybe devalue the brand in some respects, but it would be more honest in others.
Evan Mendyk The Edel EAS 4 is on the more expensive side of putters, but I think the price is worth the performance benefits of having a putter dialed into one's specific needs.
What do you love about this product?
Calvin Max The thing I love about this putter is the size. It isn't entirely clear if the putter's edges are rounded so much that it appears smaller than it is or if it has massive internal weighting because something about it seems strange. I look at it and expect it to be a certain weight, not light, but certainly not hefty. Then I pick it up, and the weight is all there. It's some variant of inexplicable magic that the pictures do not do justice.
Evan Mendyk The thing I love most about the Edel EAS 4 is the customization available to the buyer so they can get a putter that is built for their game.
