Expert Reviews of the Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro Skis + Xpress W 10 GW Bindings

This ski is hands down my top pick for beginners and intermediates in the West who want a ski they can grow all-mountain with. It delivers outstanding value for its price point with bindings included. The 90 underfoot waist width, coupled with a generous rocker in the tips and tails, creates a very easy-to-turn ski that's happy to explore the whole mountain and all the terrains skiers will find on the resort. It's limited to how fast it can comfortably go. As an expert skier, when I lean into it full tilt, I find its speed limit pretty quickly and have to make a lot of turns to keep it feeling stable, but that's exactly why most beginners and intermediates appreciate it. It never demands that they go faster than they're comfortable with. The word "carving" gets thrown around a lot in skiing, and very few people develop strong carving techniques because they don't need it to have a good time. While it performs very confidently and comfortably on groomers, it's not shaped like a carving ski, and it won't be the best option for developing deeper edge angles and technical slicing turns.
The Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro Skis are great for skiers looking to take their next step out of rental and beginner equipment. These skis are easy to turn on and have an early rise tip and a slight tail rocker, making them ideal for learning how to handle moguls and tighter turns. I found these skis a little hard to hold a carve on, as the tails tend to butter out at higher speeds in steeper terrain. That being said, this ski would be ideal for beginner to intermediate skiers looking to develop their all-mountain skills. The ski also comes with Xpress W 10 GW Bindings, which are easy to install and adjustable to any size Alpine or GripWalk soled boot. These skis will be ready to ride within minutes of unboxing.

Flotation

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. One thing beginner skiers tell me is that even though they're only sticking to the greens and blues, they still want a ski capable of handling some powder. A snowstorm doesn't care what part of the mountain skiers are on. Even the groomers can fill in on the right stormy day, where many beginner skis fail to offer a good experience. Not the Rallybird! With the rocker tip and tail plus 90mm waist width, there's enough surface area to float through the soft stuff comfortably.
gave 4 of 5 stars. While the Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro Skis will not be a skier's go-to powder ski, they do a great job keeping them afloat off-piste. The early rise tip of the ski makes it easy to float and move over fresh snow, whether it's light powder or chopped-up freshies. The 90mm waist of the ski will be enough to float around and feel supported underfoot in off-piste terrain.

Carving

4/5
gave 3 of 5 stars. Very few people getting into skiing truly understand what clean carving is and how to excel at it. Even fewer people practice it as their main technique and style for recreational skiing. Carving is when skiers apply precise pressure towards the edges of the ski to get them on a high angle and lock it into a turn. Then, using pressure toward the ski's tail, skiers change direction and use that energy to launch them into the next turn. It's a very classic approach that is limited in its use and, therefore, not exactly a necessary skill to perfect. The Rallybird is not shaped or designed to be a carving ski, and while someone can certainly practice carving with it, it will never excel at it.
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pros are great for improving one's parallel skiing and carving skills. They are easy to get on edge and hold an edge pretty well at lower speeds. However, there might be better skis for those looking to lay hard carves and have a strong edge hold through icy groomers. While the wider tails will make it easy to get on edge, they will cause the ends of the skis to butter out when laying into carves. It's not an issue if someone is going at lower speeds, but this is a bit sketchy on ice at high speeds.

High Speed Stability

3/5
gave 2 of 5 stars. The Rallybird is not intended to offer a stiff ride with no speed limit; it's quite the opposite. It's designed to give the skier a feeling of complete control at all times and never put them in a situation where they'll go faster than what's comfortable. This is exactly the right ski for the person who wants to go everywhere on the mountain but at a slow and controlled pace. A strong skier will find that they will hit the speed limit quickly and be forced to slow down to stay in control.
gave 4 of 5 stars. I found the Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro Skis stable when increasing speed and making some carves. However, they tend to have a bit of bump and chatter on steeper terrain. Additionally, I noticed these skis have a bit of a speed limit, as they did not charge and go as fast as I would like. For a beginner to intermediate-level skier, this will not be an issue. However, more advanced and charging skiers might find the ski limiting at high speeds.

Playfulness

4/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. We use the term "playfulness" in skiing to describe how easy it is to break out of a traditional stance and add some creativity to making one's way down the mountain. It describes skis that can smear turns easily, with flexible cores that will bend with skiers, the ability to ski backward if desired, and generally keep things loose and fun. The Rallybird delivers a very accessible way to be playful on the mountain while still having plenty of control.
gave 3 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pros have a good amount of play, far more than most beginner to intermediate skis have. However, these skis are still fairly stiff and have that wide tip and tail to hold them steady. The skis are light, allowing them to be more playful and easy to move than most, but they are built on the idea that they will be in contact with the snow.

Durability

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. This ski is designed to give the beginner or intermediate skier great value on a pair of skis and bindings. Its simple wood core construction and track system bindings are more than enough in that regard and can easily carry skiers into black diamond territory without durability concerns. That being said, the advanced skier with a lot of confidence and power will easily push this ski beyond its limits, and that's where breakdown will occur.

Turn Ease

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The ease of turn initiation with the Rossignol Rallybirds is absolutely unbeatable in beginner to intermediate system skis. It's really due to the rocker, which is how the ski curls away from the snow, in both the tip and the tail. This shape makes the edges feel shorter and less catchy than a traditionally cut ski, making it easy to transition into connecting smooth parallel turns.
gave 5 of 5 stars. These skis are easy to start turns on because of their early rise rocker tip and wider nose and tail. The turns are easy to control and not too aggressive. The tails butter out to help skiers finish up the turns as well.

Versatility

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The beauty of the Rallybird lies in how versatile and all-mountain capable it truly is without forcing the skier to attack the mountain with a level of aggression they're uncomfortable with. That makes it one of my favorite options for progression at this level. It allows me to get comfortable trying terrain outside the classic groomers. As I become more confident, I can add more speed to it over time.
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro is versatile. While most entry-level skis are fairly narrow and light, the Rallybirds have more tech built into them and are more friendly for multiple seasons and levels of use. With a wider waist and tip, these skis will do great all around the mountain. The tip and tail rocker of the ski allow it to play more and make for easy turns off-piste. Although more limiting for advanced riders, this ski can do it all.

FAQs

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

I really enjoyed taking these skis through the moguls and trees at a slower pace. Both moguls and trees can seem intimidating, but there's only one way to get better at them, right? This ski makes those areas easy and fun.

Why did you choose this product?

This ski is my go-to for the beginner/intermediate in the West looking for their first pair of skis that will offer great value and allow them to progress in any direction they want.
I chose to try the Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro because this ski has grown in popularity, and I kept seeing it pop up in shops around me. Rossignol markets this ski as a great intermediate-level learning ski with lots of potential all around the mountain. Most beginner to intermediate-level skis are more limited in performance, so I wanted to try one that could do it all.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

The value of the Rallybird is unbeatable, in my opinion. Getting a 90 underfoot all-mountain ski with bindings for under $400 is a steal. The right skier could easily have 10+ years of fun on it, and the adjustable system binding makes it an excellent hand-me-down option for families.
The value for money for the Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro is great. While the price may seem high for someone's first skis, consider that these come with a binding system included. Usually, skis come without bindings, which one must order separately and pay to get mounted. With the included bindings, skiers will save hundreds of dollars. Additionally, this ski is pretty versatile and has a lot of room for growth and improvement, so skiers can ride them for years to come.

What do you love about this product?

I love how accessible the Rallybirds make the entire mountain. They have a great shape and dimensions for a beginner/intermediate ski that doesn't limit the skier to strictly groomers.
What I love about the Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro is how versatile the ski is for beginner to intermediate-level riders. Many beginner skis are limited to the groomers, but with a wider waist and rocker construction, this ski is adaptable to all mountain conditions.
