The Edel Golf SMS Wedge is ideal for dedicated golfers seeking control, accuracy, and a superior feel. The club's unique adjustable weight technology allows the customization of spin rates and ball flights. Its forged construction ensures a consistent feel and audible feedback, enabling golfers to discern strike quality accurately. Excellent for both full swings and various greenside shots, the wedge's functionality justifies its premium price, as its performance can significantly lower scores. Expert Reviews of the Edel Golf SMS Wedge
Connor Wilkins The Edel SMS wedge has been in my bag for two years now. I continue to be impressed with its ability to control my dispersion and get me on the green and near the pin more times than not. I have seen an increase of about 15% greens in regulation since using this wedge, and it is due to the weight technology Edel incorporated. Adding additional weight to the toe or heel allows me to dial in my shots, quit hitting them left or right, and find the center of the face more often. This is especially important around the green, as this is where I make 80% of my shots. Control and accuracy around the green are imperative to lowering one's score. Add in excellent feel and sound, and I have a wedge that deserves to be in any player's bag, regardless if they are a 20 handicap or scratch. The price is the only downfall here. The SMS wedge is well worth it if someone is dedicated to lowering their score.
Al El Kordi-Hubbard The Edel SMS wedge is next level. The look and feel are top-notch due to the Edel milling process. Where this wedge really stands out is in the adjustable weight technology. No other wedge on the market offers this. By having two lighter weights and one heavier weight, I can move the center of gravity around, resulting in different spins and ball flights and allowing me to dial this in for my preferred flight and spin. With several grind options available, someone can take optimization a step further based on how they swing their wedges (steep versus shallow) and how they like the club to interact with the ground. I was shocked to see my spin rate jump from 9,000rpms with my Vokey to 10,200 with the Edel SMS! While this wedge delivers great performance, the main drawback is the number of options for optimization. With quite a few options, golfers need to do additional research and possibly some fitting to dial this wedge in. The weights are adjustable, so if someone doesn’t quite have them set up perfectly when they first use the wedge, they can adjust them around and find a setting they like.

3/5
Connor Wilkins gave 3 of 5 stars. Due to the weight, I tend to overreach and shank the ball/hit the ball off the hosel. This has made me very aware of my setup and forced me to ensure I am firmly planted on my heels instead of my toes. Overall, this has been a good reminder of the importance of setup, tempo, and backswing.
Spin
5/5
Connor Wilkins gave 5 of 5 stars. On a full to 3/4th swing, these are some of the best spinning wedges I have used. I can easily hit low spinners from 75 yards in or pop the ball up high over a bunker and sit the ball firmly by the hole. When I want to kill spin and hit the bump and run, I know which club to pull and the style of shot to hit.
Feel
5/5
Connor Wilkins gave 5 of 5 stars. Edel Golf SMS Wedge produces more of a solid but soft feel on impact, letting me know where I struck the ball without sending vibrations up my arms when there is a mishit.
Sound
5/5
Connor Wilkins gave 5 of 5 stars. This wedge sounds as good as any forged iron I have hit. When I strike it well, the wedge will tell me with a rewarding click that isn’t too loud or dull sounding. This is one of the best wedges I have hit, and the sound is just fantastic.
Greenside Spin
4/5
Connor Wilkins gave 4 of 5 stars. With this wedge, one won’t spin the ball like a tour pro, though it spins as good as any other wedge on the market. I can hit various shots, from a low spinner to a nice, high flop shot, and get great results around the green. The greenside spin is still really good.
FAQs
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Connor Wilkins Hole-outs are always exciting, but it's a different feeling when I hole out from 100 yards.
It was a hot July day, playing at Brainerd Golf Course. I was 100 yards from the pin, situated in the left corner of the green on a downslope. I hit my 58 high, and it landed two feet from the hole and rolled right in.
What was most exciting is it felt so easy.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Connor Wilkins This is probably the most expensive wedge on the market, sans custom engraved ones, thus the monetary value really comes from its performance. It has lowered my score by a whopping four strokes, and one can’t beat that type of improvement.
What do you love about this product?
Connor Wilkins I love the fact that it is forged, has an amazing feel, and uses weighting technology to give me more control and accuracy with my wedge shots. It’s improved my game a ton.
