Expert Reviews of the Callaway Jaws Raw Face Chrome Wedge
Kyle Emery The Callaway Jaws Raw wedge is great for a low to mid-handicap player looking for a high-quality, all-around performer to help lower scores. The milled raw face provides a fantastic amount of spin out of any lie. Offered in a multitude of bounce and grind options, they can be suited to any swing and playing conditions. They also boast a truly superior feel with a heavier weight from the tungsten inserts on the back of the head.
Thaddius Callaway This wedge is for every player who wants a slight challenge and forgiveness. It has a player-style look and is not oversized, but the grooves are very spin-enhancing. This wedge responds better around the greens due to the rust. The leading edge rarely gets stuck in the ground and gets a decent amount of spin from the rough. It has been in my bag for about six months, and I have never felt more confident over the ball. It's worth saying that I'm a pretty loyal TaylorMade club player. I initially owned every Milled Grind wedge, and I still have them. But I have not been able to go back to them after trying this wedge! The Jaws Raw wedge is worth a try if a player wants to tighten the dispersion and consistency around the greens.
Braden Kreft This wedge will be ideally found in the hands of a 5-12 handicap golfer. People of this skill range will experience the greatest benefit from face milling. They will be better able to control the high outputs of spin. Players more advanced than the given handicap range will fair well with this wedge; however, players above this will find using the Jaws wedge difficult due to the spin rates and unforgiveness.
Eric S. The Callaway Jaws Raw wedge is for everyone. The variety of bounce and grind options makes it so there is a model out there for the scratch golfer up to brand-new golfers. Players who like to get creative around the greens and manipulate the clubface should go for the X and Z grinds. The players that want the most forgiveness and like to keep the clubface closed at impact should gear more for the S and W grinds. Very pleased with the performance of these wedges.
Bobby Funkhouser Overall, I am very impressed with this wedge. I tested out multiple bounce and grind options and liked all of them. The raw face has a great feel and creates tons of spin around the greens and on full shots from the fairway. This wedge is ideal for any golfer besides someone brand new to the game. Otherwise, it would be great in any golfer's bag.
Braeden B This wedge is great for anyone looking to generate a lot of spin around the green, in bunkers, and even 75-yard approach shots. The biting power this wedge gives is outstanding, among the best. It allows me to be aggressive in my chips or flops, put it close, and trust that the ball will stick. Insane forgiveness and very easy ball flight make this wedge stand out from competitors. While there are 17 loft and bounce options, it fits a wide array of players and course conditions to really help me tailor my wedge to what I need on my home course.
Paul Bancroft After thorough testing and comparison, I can confidently say that the Callaway Jaws Raw Chrome Wedge (50° loft) is a high-quality, well-performing golf club. Its design features precision-milled Jaws grooves, which should theoretically deliver exceptional spin control and stopping power, setting it apart from the competition. I notice less spin and tight grouping compared to my Vokey SM8 wedge. When struck perfectly, the Jaws wedge has a soft yet responsive feel and feedback that can enhance shot-making capabilities. At the same time, the sleek chrome finish adds visual appeal, although it requires proper maintenance to preserve its appearance. It should be a consideration for golfers seeking a versatile and high-performance wedge.
Jason Hester I think this wedge checks all the boxes regarding performance and feel. With a variety of grind/bounce options and two color options, this wedge gives players everything they would want in a wedge setup. With the face being raw, it will eventually rust over time. Mid-to-low handicap players would benefit the most from X and Z grind wedges the most. The W grind gives the most forgiveness and would be ideal for the higher handicap player.
Brady Falk I would recommend this wedge to mid-to-high handicap players who are looking for a wedge that spins a ton around the green. The raw face really grabs onto the ball and promotes maximum spin. The tungsten weight is a new feature of the Callaway wedges. It helps optimize the center of gravity to increase feel and improve forgiveness, even though it is not designed to be the most forgiving wedge. Four different grind options are offered, and each grind is very different, which makes this wedge able to fit many styles of golfers. Both color options, chrome and black, look great and cater to any player's desired look. I would not recommend this wedge to a scratch golfer in a stock setup because the swingweight is very light and takes away from the feel. Paired with an upgraded shaft and built to a player's specific swingweight, this wedge would be fantastic for a low-handicap player.
John D After briefly testing the Callaway Jaws Raw wedge, I was immediately impressed. The feel on the clubs is very soft and perfect for shots inside 125 yards and around the green. I ordered the custom shafts, grip size, and bounce/grind options for my game, and I am even more impressed. The best thing about this wedge is how easy it is to control the ball flight. Shaping shots and trajectory control are done with ease.
Austin Perry This product is ideal for the more advanced golfer looking to get the most out of their wedges. The muscle back design and variety of bounce options allow the user to get very creative with shot-making. The raw face and Jaws grooves make this one of the spinniest wedges on the market, and the triple-grind bounce options of X and Z are very playable from any lie.
Ryan Hernandez This wedge is top-notch in performance but also price. It rings in at $180 and is worth every penny. I have used the Vokey SM9, TaylorMadeMG3, and the TaylorMade Hi-Toe, which will go up against any of these regarding performance. It is made with the best players in the world in mind and is customizable for one's game. With the look, amount of options, and mix of performance and forgiveness, there is a wedge for every golfer. Callaway hit the mark with this.
Scott Hofsommer The Jaws Raw wedge performs at a top-tier level regarding spin production, feel, and workability. The variety of bounce, loft, and grind combinations ensures this wedge matches any golfer's swing style and tendencies. Low to mid-handicap golfers will enjoy the player's style club shaping and design. Overall, this is good for golfers who want more control over ball flight and spin from the fairway and rough.
Eric Granata The Callaway Jaws Raw is a great wedge for the player looking for versatility. With four grinds available, the Jaws Raw wedge has a grind that will suit one's game around the green, in the bunkers, and from the fairway. The addition of tungsten controls the center of gravity and gives the golfer a great feeling wedge. Callaway also introduced a new grind, the Z grind, for shallow players or playing on very firm courses. The Z grind is a tri-sole grind that offers better turf interaction, versatility to open the face, and a more playable low-bounce option overall. The S grind is a standard grind that will fit most golfers. The W grind is a full sole grind that offers the most forgiveness and stability for people who need it. It's also a great option for golfers who struggle in the bunker. The last grind is the X grind. It's a narrow sole, higher bounce option for steeper golfers who want versatility. This has plenty of heel relief to open up the face around the green and a chambered leading edge to prevent digging. The Jaws Raw wedge is versatile, easy to control, and has lots of options.
Michael Harris The Callaway Jaws Raw Chrome Wedge is designed for golfers looking to improve their short game. This wedge is intended for shots around the green, including approach shots, chips, and pitches. It is particularly useful for players looking to add more spin and control to their shots. The raw chrome finish creates more friction on the face, creating higher spin rates at impact. Overall, this wedge is a great option for golfers looking to get better at those crucial shots that can make or break a round.
Tyler Jones The Jaws Raw wedge is perfect for intermediate and lower-handicap players looking for feel and workability. This wedge will greatly benefit players looking to manipulate and spin the ball. Callaway added some tungsten to the wedge's sole to help with feel and forgiveness. I recommend the player get fitted for the proper grind.
Evan Massena, PGA The Jaws Raw is great for someone looking for a wedge that's going to provide them with great feel, control, and versatility around the greens. The multiple grind designs allow players to get a wedge almost "customized" to what they are trying to achieve with their short game. This wedge is great for tight lies around the green and from out of the rough, bunkers, or full-swing shots. This wedge greatly increases the spin I experience out of the rough. As golfers know, hitting the ball out of the rough can put them in a "flier lie" position, minimizing spin and control. I only encounter a little of that with this wedge, which makes it one of my favorites!
Jason Starkey The Callaway Jaws Raw wedge will fit golfers of any skill level looking for spin from a wedge. It is important, however, to match the bounce and grind to the golfer. Higher handicap players will not find the X and Z grinds beneficial. The aggressive leading edge with these grinds is better for a low-handicap player who can play many different types of shots. For the higher handicap player, the S and W grinds will match their games being less aggressive and benefit players who play more square-faced and need help getting out of the sand.

Review Ratings
Full Shots
4/5
Thaddius Callaway gave 4 of 5 stars. Golfers with a steep attack angle will need the 12W grind with a thick enough sole for forgiveness. If the divot looks fairly normal, the 10S grind will work amazingly. I would not suggest other grinds for full shots because they will open or close the face on a toe or heel strike. One wants the most forgiveness when fully swinging this wedge. It's essentially a blade at this point.
Spin
4/5
Thaddius Callaway gave 4 of 5 stars. The amplified spin on this wedge doesn’t work for everyone. It’s perfect for me at a 10 hcp. I’m not a pro, so my on-demand spin is kind of low. I’m able to be more aggressive with my approach shots. Having this confidence almost completely cuts out my deceleration.
Feel
5/5
Thaddius Callaway gave 5 of 5 stars. My nemesis is the decel, so I despise a heavy-headed wedge. The stock shaft is 115g, so this and the new weighting system create a counterweight. Basically, it feels pretty even from grip to head and makes it easier to swing through the ball versus dropping the club on the ball.
Sound
4/5
Thaddius Callaway gave 4 of 5 stars. I'm not as much of a sound snob as others, but the sound on this is noticeably solid toward the middle of the club. What might be the best about the sound is that on mishits, it sounds different. So there should be no question, without looking at the face, whether I hit it flush or not.
Greenside Spin
5/5
Thaddius Callaway gave 5 of 5 stars. The previous Jaws (with the blue dots) premiered with the deepest grooves in the game. This was awesome because I lacked spin on all the other popular wedges. As a TaylorMade player, I was reluctant to try anything else. But as a club fitter, I tried the Jaws Raw and instantly fell in love with the bite I was getting around the greens. I am thoroughly impressed with the spin off the toe of the club, which has no grooves.
FAQs
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Thaddius Callaway I have a lot of good moments with this wedge, but for the most part, my favorite is when it is naturally raw. I wanted to see the difference between the brand new un-rusted faces versus the rusted faces. I almost instantly noticed better spin on mishits. Also, when the faces rusted, I noticed that being more aggressive around the green led to fewer putts.
Why did you choose this product?
Thaddius Callaway I am a certified fitter for multiple companies across the company spectrum. So I have been lucky to have these given to me. With that said, I have owned SM9, Milled Grind 2 and 3, and Jaws Raw simultaneously. I gave all of these wedges equal chances to impress me. And with about 10 rounds each as a barometer, Jaws Raw was one of the most forgiving and satisfying feelings I have encountered in years.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Thaddius Callaway This is not the cheapest wedge on the market. Top companies are selling wedges ranging from $139-179. The Jaws Raw is up there with the top wedges price-wise. Performance, weighting system, and look are top of the class nevertheless.
