The Curated Take

4.0/5

The Volkl V-Square String is designed for intermediate to advanced players seeking enhanced spin capabilities. Its unique square shape facilitates maximum ball bite, increasing RPMs and ball control. Despite being a polyester string, V-Square combines a softer texture with effective ball pocketing, allowing for precision shots. The string ensures comfort during play, and while it has average tension maintenance, its playability remains consistent for longer hours.

Expert Reviews of the Volkl V-Square String

Brandon M. Volkl V-Square is the most spin-friendly string I have ever used. The square shape bites the ball and makes generating lots of RPMs on my shots easy. It is a softer polyester string, so it retains good comfort. That softness also produces nice ball pocketing so that when combined with the easy spin, I feel like I can put the ball anywhere I want. As with most polyester strings, it doesn't have much power, so it is best for big-hitting intermediate to advanced players looking to take their spin to the next level.

Review Ratings

Spin

5/5
Brandon M. gave 5 of 5 stars. Volkl V-Square provides more spin than any string I've ever used. The sharp square-shaped profile bites into the ball and adds big amounts of rotation as I swing. My forehands bounce higher. It feels heavier than strings I've played with in the past. On second serves, I can hit great biting slice and high bouncing kick serves, making it a very effective weapon.

Control

5/5
Brandon M. gave 5 of 5 stars. The level of control I find with the Volkl V-Square String is great. Some polyester strings offer high control by being extremely low-powered and dead feeling. Still, V-Square can feel lively while giving me the confidence to go for small targets. The easy spin from the square profile and excellent ball pocketing with the soft feel make it so I can swing away and know that my shot will go where I want it to.

Durability

4/5
Brandon M. gave 4 of 5 stars. I've yet to break a set of Volkl V-Square strings, not because they are highly durable but because the performance falls off before they break. Playability is good for 12-15 hours of play before the liveliness and some of the control are gone.

Tension Maintenance

3/5
Brandon M. gave 3 of 5 stars. Volkl V-Square is about average in tension maintenance for a polyester string. Still, it stands out in that even as tension drops, the string's playability does not last a while. I can get 12-15 hours of good performance from a set of V-Square String, where I find some similar polyesters drop off at 8-10.

Power

3/5
Brandon M. gave 3 of 5 stars. Volkl V-Square is a string that, by its nature, is low-powered for beginners. Polyester strings are designed for big-hitting players who want help taming their power while offering improved spin and durability. Compared to other polyester strings, V-Square has slightly better than average power, contributing to its lively feel.

Comfort

4/5
Brandon M. gave 4 of 5 stars. I enjoy the comfort of the Volkl V-Square String. It is easy on the arm and a welcome relief from some first-generation polyester strings that felt like playing with metal wire. The V-Square is softer than the Volkl Cyclone and Babolat RPM Blast strings.
