Expert Reviews of the TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage Single Bend Putter

Josh Snyder I was intrigued by the missing metal behind the clubface when I first saw the TaylorMade TP DuPage putter. I've always liked TM's mallets, as they seem to get the balance just right. This putter is quite forgiving with its square-like shape, and added alignment help with the cut-out design. I recommend this putter for players seeking forgiveness on the greens, who don't require a lot of face feel, and who have trouble lining up the ball.
Right out of the box, the first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful headcover that matched the extremely comfortable Lamkin Sink Fit grip. There is an uncanny similarity this "mallet" putter has in terms of overall feel to my traditional blade putter. The standard weight with the 10g inserts is a sleek 355 grams. Not too heavy in terms of the average mallet design. The weight placement also lends itself to the feel of a blade while offering the extra forgiveness found in a mallet design. TaylorMade weights for this line range from 5 to 20 grams, so a potential weight of 375 grams can be attained with the DuPage putter and would really maximize the total moment of inertia and thus boost the forgiveness capabilities in what is already an excellent design.

Review Ratings

Forgiveness

3/5
gave 3 of 5 stars. The TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage Putter offers a fair amount of forgiveness compared to a blade style. Still, not quite the moment of inertia (forgiveness) most players look for in a mallet design. The weight comes in standard at 355 grams with 15g weights inserted and can be adjusted up to 375 with the 20g weights TaylorMade offers on their website. Adding some weight to the head will enhance the overall forgiveness in this design.

Alignment

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. Some may think the alignment is plain with the single black line on the matte grey finish, but the entire frame design of the TP Hydro Blast DuPage Putter can be used to boost my accuracy with this putter. The two cutouts from the body of the mallet give me the structure to ensure I'm lined up correctly at address while framing the golf ball in my stance perfectly.

Grip

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The Lamkin Sink Fit grip used on this putter is one of the absolute highlights of the entire club. The feel definitely ranks up there with any on the market. The weight seems ideal for this mallet style. The blue and white design matches the adjustable weights and super sharp headcover.

Feel

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. This TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage Putter is just what the doctor ordered if players seek a slight uptick in forgiveness without going overboard in the large, heavyweight mallet design and thus sacrificing feel. This is a compact shape with a very blade-like face and overall feel but with the popular mallet "fangs" connecting in the back and through the middle. This design moves most of the weight to the face and, paired with the pure roll insert technology, provides an overall exceptional feel for a mallet design.

Balance

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. The TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage putter comes in a single bend neck, giving it a very face-balanced structure. This setup fits best with a straight back and through swing, while the added weight in and around the face stabilizes the wrist to minimize any unwanted motion in a golfer's stroke to ensure they stay on their line and strike the ball cleanly. The DuPage putter offers outstanding balance for the golfer looking for a putter that fits their needs.

FAQs

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

After years of gaming a 1980s "anser" style blade (it was my grandfather's), I stood over the ball on the green with this TaylorMade DuPage putter for the first time. I immediately understood why so many golfers go the way of the mallet. The feel and forgiveness were evident after the first roll, but the confidence that comes with a mallet was real before I took the first swing.

Why did you choose this product?

This TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage putter offers the overall feel of a more traditional blade in terms of weight and balance but offers the forgiveness that only today's high moment of inertia mallet designs can provide. For me, this combination was exactly what I needed in a putter, and the results have been excellent.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

The TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage Putter offers outstanding value for the quality and technology that comes with this design. The Hydro Blast has an extremely resilient frame that will keep its good looks for many seasons. The most valuable piece of technology found in this DuPage design is the pure roll insert that was previously only available in the higher-end mallets from TaylorMade (some of which are almost double the current MSRP). The quality of this putter far outweighs the mid-level sticker price.

What do you love about this product?

The TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast DuPage comes in an eye-catching design. The Hydro Blast finish with the navy blue accents in the adjustable swing weights and the TP logo paired with the matching high-quality headcover and Lamkin Sink Fit grip really give this putter a leg up in the looks department.
