Are you a new golfer searching for the right ball? Or maybe a seasoned golfer looking to see if there might be a better fit out there for your swing speed? Check out these five options, ranging from best for beginners to supreme for senior women.

Types of Women’s Golf Balls I’ve Personally Tried

  • Callaway Reva
  • Srixon Soft Feel Lady
  • Callaway Supersoft
  • TaylorMade Kalea
  • XXIO Rebound Drive

According to packaging labels on women’s balls, the difference between the men’s and women’s is the compression. Since women golfers typically swing slower than men, the ball doesn’t need as much compression, which means lower-compression balls perform better with a slower swing, and higher-compression balls perform better with a faster swing.

As a female golfer, I felt obligated to try out several women’s golf balls to see if I noticed a difference between them. For a female, I have a faster swing speed and decent distance on drives, usually around 220 yards, so I look for a decent compression on the ball that I choose.

1. Callaway Reva Women’s

The Callaway Reva golf balls are the latest I’ve tried. I got a great distance when I swung slower than usual, and the ball did well when hitting irons, keeping the spin speed low and allowing for me to get more height on my shots. This ball is also good at keeping a low spin to help strengthen consistency in the game and maximize distance. I’ve noticed when hitting the Reva balls that my drive has a higher loft, which does help to increase my distance but, again, only when I swing slower.

With a larger size than other golf balls (although difficult to notice unless holding two balls side by side), the Reva allows for better accuracy, because of its oversized core, and for a straighter hit. The thought behind the larger ball size is the ball would be easier to hit the middle of the clubface, which helps the overall center of gravity to allow for a higher ball flight. As we’re learning, higher ball flight usually means greater distance.

Best Features:

  • Low spin speed and more height.
  • Larger size leads to better accuracy.

Possible Drawbacks:

  • Because of the lack of grip, it’s difficult to gain any type of backspin when trying to chip it onto the green.

Best for:

  • Women who would like to see an improvement on the distance off the swing, as well as beginner/slower swing-speed golfers, since the Reva is designed to be forgiving and more accurate.

2. Srixon Soft Feel Lady

This ball has a compression of 58, which is great for mid- to slow-driver speeds. Balls with a softer core allow players with a softer swing to gain more distance and better spin than golf balls with a higher compression. The Soft Feel Lady golf balls are created with a FastLayer core, which Srixon describes as a soft center that gradually becomes firmer around the perimeter. They are also encased in a soft ionomer cover, which produces less spin on the ball.

When talking about golf balls, it’s also important to check out how many dimples are on your ball. Why are dimples important? Because balls with more dimples have a lower trajectory because of drag, but without dimples, golf balls would sail only half the distance. The Soft Feel ball has a 338-dimple pattern, resulting in less air resistance, which results in a faster ball speed, and, therefore greater distance.

Best Features:

  • Great flight path for those with a slower swing speed
  • Large pink line for aligning putts

Possible Drawbacks:

  • I personally felt that the ball didn’t have enough compression for my swing speed, so if you have a higher swing speed you may not feel like your ball carries much farther.

Best for:

  • A great option for those hoping to increase their distance and hit their balls straighter, as long as you have a lower swing speed with these soft balls.

3. Callaway Supersoft

Just like the Callaway Reva, the Callaway Supersoft golf ball is a popular choice. As hinted in their name, the exterior of this two-piece ball is extremely soft. When I’ve hit these balls, I usually get a pretty straight (or accurate) shot from where I am aiming.

I’ve also noticed that no matter how many times I’ve chunked the ball or hit it incorrectly, I haven’t found any inconsistencies with the exterior, which shows just how durable they are. The small amount of this ball’s compression lowers the spin speed, making the shot more forgiving on long shots, but it also doesn’t allow for much backspin on the short game on greens when chipping on. If that’s something you often do, take that into consideration.

The Supersoft has a low compression core of only 38, which is the lowest compression. Low compression reduces spin for increased distance, and low spin results in a straight ball flight, making drives off the tee box of a golfer with a slower swing farther and straighter. Callaway says that the proprietary, 332-dimple Hex design of the Supersoft balls’ pattern promotes a longer, more stable, and penetrating flight.

So if you do have a slow swing speed or play as a senior, the Supersoft would be perfect because of both the hybrid cover of the ball, which allows a player to have more control over their wedge shots with higher spin than other women’s balls, and the accuracy of drives from the tee box.

Best Features:

  • Extremely soft, which helps with control of the ball coming off of the clubface
  • Durable exterior

Possible Drawbacks:

  • Doesn’t allow for much backspin on short game when chipping due to lower spin speed

Best for:

  • Women with a slower swing speed or senior women, since the SuperSoft’s low compression allows for more distance and a straight ball flight

4. TaylorMade Kalea

I wasn’t sure about how good these balls would be because of their low price, so I recently tried them out. If you are a weekend golfer searching for a great budget ball, then the TaylorMade Kaleas are for you. Their price may deter some players by giving them the notion that they may not be good enough, but I would say they are well worth trying.

The ball distance is great, aligning with other golf balls in this lineup. It’s on par with top-of-the-line balls in a higher price range, and the exterior has a great soft feel. The Kalea also has 342 dimples, which help to extend the distance of your drive off your golf club by promoting lift.

However, the Kalea golf ball comes up short on alignment features, meaning its arrows aren’t fully connected, so it’s difficult to line up. It also isn’t the best for creating spin where needed.

Still keeping the price in mind, these would be great balls for a beginner golfer or someone who golfs for fun without trying to buy the top-of-the-line ball. As mentioned, the distance is comparable to its competitors, so if that’s what you’re looking for in a ball, these are a great option. The balls also come in fun colors, including peach and purple.

Best Features:

  • High dimple pattern, which helps extend the distance of drives
  • Budget-friendly price

Possible Drawbacks:

  • Difficult to create spin where needed
  • Alignment is difficult to use because of disconnected arrows on the ball

Best for:

  • Beginner golfers or those looking for a great, affordable ball that still compares to higher-end options

5. XXIO Rebound Drive

I’ll be totally honest: When I was searching for women’s balls to try, I had never even heard of this ball until a woman I met on the course mentioned it’s what she was using. So I decided to try them out.

Before I delve too deeply into this review, know now that they are $49.99 — which could be labeled as a premium golf ball and very well out of many people’s budget. However, that being said, I’d highly suggest you try them out once, because wow, did I love them.

I remember teeing up the first shot and not having high hopes, but man, did my drive go far. The fast-layer core of this ball flexes for even more energy on each swing and also is well suited for all types of shots on the course.

The Rebound Frame technology allows for greater distance and versatility, according to XXIO’s product description. This three-piece ball consists of a Soft Flex zone, a Hard Rigid zone, and the fast-layer core, which all lead to a ball that allows for versatile shots and maximum control. The Rebound Drive also has a urethane cover, which helps create more spin on the ball.

Unlike the TaylorMade Kalea, this ball does have four visual clues to aid alignment on your putts, which you can’t miss because of their size. So if you use the line when putting, this would be helpful for you. The ball has a wide black vertical line with white arrows, a target line to line up your putt, a cross line to help with your putter face angle, and a diamond in the middle to help focus your eyes on the ball. Also, this ball has the same amount of dimples as the Srixon: 338.

I would say this golf ball is great for everyone, from a beginner to a professional. It features alternating layers, from soft to firm to soft. This seems to help create the right amount of flex for each type of shot and also allows for that greenside spin that other balls do not.

The Rebound Drive has a compression of 78, one of the higher compressions of balls I’ve reviewed.

Best Features:

  • Rebound Frame technology allows for higher ball control and greater distance
  • Helpful visual aids for putting

Possible Drawbacks:

  • Higher price tag

Best for:

  • Women ranging from beginner to professional

How To Choose The Best Golf Ball

Now that I’ve listed several of the best women’s golf balls, the time has come to choose the right golf ball for you. Also, know that you may have to purchase several dozen balls before you find your perfect fit. The easiest way to narrow it down is to put two ball types against each other to see which favors your golf game. Here are two important things to keep in mind:

  • Compression
    • The compression of women’s balls usually varies between 30 to 80. What we’ve learned above is that women with a slow swing speed need a ball with a low compression rating to gain distance. The longer you practice and play, your swing speed may increase, so you may want to look for a golf ball with compression on the higher end to ensure you’re not losing out on distance.
  • Spin Speed
    • Spin matters most in two areas of your golf game: around the greens and off the tee box. Usually you would want a ball with low spin from the tee box and a higher spin around the greens.
    • With that confusion, it’s best to search for a ball with that “soft feel” I’ve been talking about. This will help with performance around the greens, while still gaining that distance in the fairways and spin you’re looking for off the tees.
