Its multi-material design enhances stability and forgiveness. The True Path alignment system aids alignment, while the Pure Roll insert ensures consistent and accurate ball rolls. Expert Reviews of the TaylorMade 2023 Spider GTX Black Single Bend Putter

Christopher Colburn The putter has a great design. It partners up an ideal alignment system, grip, and weight/feel. I tested this putter last year and fell in love. It is a smooth putter and an excellent choice for anyone to put in their bag and play.
The TaylorMade Spider GTX putter really helped me feel comfortable at address during testing. The True Path white alignment contrasts sharply with the black putter head and helps me visualize a path to the hole. Being confident at address alleviates a lot of the nerves when putting. The head at takeaway and impact feel very stable. The TaylorMade Spider GTX is one of the finer-looking and most stable feeling mallet heads. The improved Pure Roll insert is a bit firmer than past models, and I find this is an advantage in lag putting. Past models felt a bit too soft and made distance control more difficult. Overall, this is a confidence-inspiring putter. While it comes in other colors, I think the black/white combo is the best at alignment. The only drawback may be the aesthetics of the two pieces, with a gap between the aluminum head and steel bar at the trailing edge.

Forgiveness

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The Spider GTX is one of the most stable and forgiving putters I’ve ever tested. The suite of features helps this club resist twisting and, therefore, be more forgiving at impact. While some competitors are pushing weight to the leading edge of their putters, TaylorMade has a lightweight aluminum head paired with a heavier steel bar, pushed far from the face on the trailing edge. There is a gap between the weight bar and the putter mallet head.

Alignment

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The visual aid is excellent. The True Path alignment by TaylorMade is a real game improvement feature. I can’t say enough positive things about it. Many putters have dots or singular lines the width of a credit card. However, its wide and standout white path helps frame the ball and align the putter more easily.

Grip

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. I’ve been used to oversized and wide grips with no taper. The pistol grip sets nicely in the palm. The Spider GTX has a classic putter shape and thickness with a modern SuperStroke material for tack and feel.

Feel

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. Feel is subjective, and remember that feel is closely related to sound. The new, improved Pure Roll insert has aluminum combined with its proprietary compound. This combination of materials provides a firmer and more controlled feel on longer lag putts. The sound is clean and not too soft or non-existent. It’s a nice blend of soft and firm that I haven’t experienced with putters containing inserts or pure milled metal—clever design with effective performance.

Balance

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. The design of the clubhead and the multi-material usage create a balanced and stable putter. The sole has a “hollowed” out core in the lightweight aluminum body. A separate heavier steel bar is attached to the back of the mallet. This distribution of weight delivers a balanced putter head.

FAQs

Why did you choose this product?

I was really excited to test this putter. I am a mallet putter fan, and I had always thought TaylorMade putters were close to being solid. I eagerly anticipated this release and wanted to test the new improvements.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

The value of the Spider GTX putter is excellent. Competitor putter makers charge the same or more for putters without tech features. This putter has many features, and its multi-material build helps improve stroke and alignment. That type of confidence-building performance is invaluable.

What do you love about this product?

The classic black-and-white contrast stands out as a visual aid. In addition, the total suite of features combined creates a great feeling and performing mallet putter.
