Expert Reviews of the Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft #10.5C Putter
Calvin Max What impresses me most about this mallet is how much weight is in such a compact package. The putter seems impossibly smaller than its brothers of the line because of its square shape. When I set it down at address, it set up "open." One of the idiosyncrasies of my game is that I tend to set up with all of my clubs slightly closed at address, so I was fascinated to see it reversed with this model.
The geometric steps on either side of the back channel are my favorite aspect of its looks.
My favorite thing about its performance is how well it is balanced, how easy it is to get the putter moving back, and how hard it is to overpower a putt.

Alignment
3/5
Calvin Max gave 3 of 5 stars. I was somewhat unamused during testing to find that this putter liked to line up to the right. Inexplicably, on every other putt, I would look from the hole back to the putter to find that I had rotated the face slightly open. While undoubtedly a personal problem, it was persistent enough that I felt the need to bring it up. I also missed almost all of my putts out right, so I suspect the opening I was doing also carried through to my stroke.
Grip
4/5
Calvin Max gave 4 of 5 stars. Two grip types come available on these putters: a pistol-style blue Cleveland branded grip and the now ubiquitous SuperStrokes. I am a great fan of the former and would like never to see the latter again. Fortunately, I found a pistol grip variant, which complements the head's weight well. This putter does not need the additional stability of an oversized grip.
Forgiveness
4/5
Calvin Max gave 4 of 5 stars. The sweet spot on this putter is practically the entire face. However, it's weighted so well that it is challenging to get offline. Missed strikes to the toe are "punished," if I can call it that, more than those toward the heel. During testing, I never sent a ball more than six inches away from the hole on either side. I missed plenty long, but even my bad putts had a chance.
Feel
4/5
Calvin Max gave 4 of 5 stars. I was impressed by how easy it was to keep this putter on line and how easy it was to judge power during testing. The head has some substantial weight, making it easy to let it do the work.
FAQs
What do you love about this product?
Calvin Max What I love most about the HB Soft #10.5C is the ideal shaft placement. It seems to be a minor feature but speaks to the effort and thought put into this flatstick. The shaft's uppermost curve perfectly aligns with the alignment sight line.
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Calvin Max My favorite moment with this putter was when I missed 15 consecutive putts that all finished within eight inches of the hole. Typically, on a practice green, I only have three balls, but I was testing, so I had a whole pile of them, and the result was this hilarious congregation of narrowly missed 15-footers.
