The Curated Take
4.2/5
The Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft #4 Putter is an affordable yet high-performing option for golfers. Its clean, stainless steel blade design offers a weighty feel for consistent tempo. Alignment is straightforward, though its narrow blade style has some limitations. The oversized sweet spot provides an excellent feel and surprising forgiveness. While the grip is standard, it offers a comfortable feel. Overall, it's a budget-friendly choice for those seeking a reliable, elegant putter to enhance their putting consistency.
Ideal for
- Feels very heavy in the hand, making it easy to keep tempo through the impact zone
- Has a very clean aesthetic, with few superfluous markings or distracting branding
- Easy to get on line
Not ideal for
- Headcover is a little bulky, although well-made
- Glare coming off the stainless steel can catch at odd angles and be distracting

Expert Reviews of the Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft #4 Putter
Calvin Max I recently tested the Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft #4 Putter, which exceeded expectations, outperforming pricier options. It has a slightly enlarged traditional blade design, crafted from stainless steel, and features a plumber's neck and minimal alignment indicators.
I used the smaller variant of the SuperStroke grip during testing, although a Cleveland-branded Golf Pride pistol grip was also available. As a right-handed golfer with a mid-70s to low 80s scoring range, I have always struggled to putt consistently throughout an entire round. Not an issue with this thing. After a couple of holes, I forgot about it and putted like I was 12 again.

Alignment
4/5
Calvin Max gave 4 of 5 stars. It does its job and intuitively aligns with my eye line. But there isn't a way to escape that this is a narrow blade putter, and it lacks the depth to allow for what I feel is necessary for a precise alignment on every stroke. It retains a high ranking because there is little more to ask of this putter style, and it does an excellent job of staying stable through the stroke.
Feel
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. The sweet spot is massive, and balls spring off of it in a way that feels like I finally don't have to think about power. Of course, I still think about it, but I feel free to let them fly.
Balance
4/5
Calvin Max gave 4 of 5 stars. Similar to the "alignment" section, "balance" does not receive full marks simply because of the style of putter it is. No thin blade will be a perfectly balanced one. But the toe balance, designed for a player with an arc in their stroke, is wonderfully executed. Unfortunately, I don't naturally putt it that way, so I have to feel very free for this to feel right in my hands.
Grip
3/5
Calvin Max gave 3 of 5 stars. I have a long and very personal beef with SuperStroke grips. I fundamentally don't understand them and find myself revolted by them in principle and practice. That said, a pistol grip variant is available but is harder to come across than the more typical oversized grips. The pistol grip it comes with is a color-matched blue that I find very pleasing to the eye and hands.
Forgiveness
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. I have tried to figure out what magic this putter holds, but it remains a mystery. All I know is putts I am convinced are bad end up near the hole. It is hard to explain because sometimes I almost commit to bad putts in testing to see how bad they can turn out, and this putter never makes me look silly.
FAQs
What do you love about this product?
Calvin Max What I love most about the HB Soft #4 is the simple, calming, and elegant look it presents at address. Looking down, it feels timeless. I could look at this putter in 2020 or 1975, and it would be the same.
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Calvin Max My favorite moment with this putter was the first putt I ever hit. A friend, one of the worst putters I had ever known until this day, showed up to the course one Sunday with a pep in his step and this putter in his bag. After he sank everything he looked at through nine holes, I asked to check it out at the practice green at the turn, and only halfway paying attention, I aimed up a putt. Mainly intending to see how it felt, I let one fly, and it gently arced into the hole. My buddy jumped behind me and yelled, "See? I told you. It's magic!" at the top of his lungs.
Why did you choose this product?
Calvin Max The Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft #4 has many premium features in an inexpensive package. I keep one of these around because it is easy to use and because of the brushed steel finish's durability. It doesn't even need a headcover, although it comes with one.
