Brand Claims
What does Cobra claim about this club? [Ryan\ They claim that it’s going to be a tour-friendly head. Low spin. It will give you all the aspects that you want, especially for a low-handicapper, to give a workable, playable driver that will fit their game and rival the better players.
Overall Impressions
What are the specs of the club you are testing? [Ryan\ Nine-degree loft, the Kai’li White 60 X shaft, and a Lamkin 360 grip.
What is your overall impression of the club? [Ryan\ I actually loved trying out this club. I loved it. I was smitten with it. I was hitting the center of the face like nobody’s business. It is a rocket. It really goes. I was incredibly impressed.
Review
How is it for distance? [Ryan\ Distance-wise, it was a monster — one of the longest drivers I’ve ever hit in my life. You hit the center of the face, and it shoots off like a rocket, and it goes.
How is it for forgiveness? [Ryan\ Not the most forgiving driver. The Max is going to be more forgiving. I definitely saw that. Even the regular Aerojet is going to be more forgiving than this. You will lose balls more to the left and right if you’re not hitting the center of this.
How is it for workability? [Ryan\ This is much more workable. I can hit the cuts. I can hit those big hooks if I needed to.
How is its launch? [Ryan\ Launch was quite a bit lower than the Max and the standard, which is what I really like. I like a lower-piercing ball flight.
How is it in terms of ball speed? [Ryan\ Ball speed was incredible. I was regularly hitting 170 with this, which is high for me for sure. It’s fantastic.
How is it for spin? [Ryan\ Spin was low. I was keeping this 2100-2000, which I really, really liked.
What do you find unique about its appearance? [Ryan\ It’s got a smaller head but not as pronounced point. It’s definitely rounded here to me. I like that it sets up a slightly open fade bias. You can actually see it. I don’t like a driver that looks closed, and unfortunately, so many, even standard and draw models, are obviously coming that way. So, I really like the uniqueness of that. It’s like a Kevlar cross-stitch pattern, which I don’t have a problem with. It’s a unique look. It’s been used in other drivers, but it’s kind of a cool look as well to look down at it. And then it’s got the C Cobra alignment tool there as well.
What may make a player shy away from it? [Ryan\ If you struggle with the right miss. It’s a neutral-to-fade bias driver. It’s a lower-launching driver. So, if you already struggle to hit the ball in the air, you will stay away from this. It’s low spin. So, if you already struggle with spin and need more spin, you’ll also shy away from this.
How would you describe the sound of this club and feel at impact? [Ryan\ The sound is not as “ting-y” as the other ones.
Are there any drawbacks to this club? [Ryan\ If you don’t want the features that it comes with. I don’t see many features besides the sound that are not my favorite. If your game doesn’t fit what this driver desires to do, it’s a drawback.
Recommendations
Who would you recommend this club to? [Ryan\ I would recommend this club for a lower- or mid-handicap player who wants that workability. Now, it’s not for everybody. There will be players who think they should be playing this, and others think they shouldn’t. But if you’re a lower-handicap player who knows how to work the ball or wants that extra workability, the lower spin, and the lower launch, this driver is for you. It’s a no-brainer choice.
Who should avoid this club, and what type of club would be a better option for that player? [Ryan\ Higher-handicap players and people who need forgiveness probably should avoid this driver.
