Brand Claims

What does Cobra claim about this club? [Ryan] COBRA claims that this hybrid is a mix or a blend of high launch and distance to give you the best possible hybrid from several different types of lies.

Overall Impressions

What are the specs of the club you are testing? [Ryan] Three hybrid 19 degrees loft, KBS Player's graphite stiff 85 hybrid shaft, and the Lamkin 360 standard Crossline grip.

What is your overall impression of the club? [Ryan] Feels great off the face. I like that it absorbs and gives me a little bit more feel. I was not crazy about the look as I looked down the club. It has a longer length to it and is pretty deep. And I like a shorter length and not as deep of a hybrid look. I wasn’t crazy about it.

Review

How is it for distance? [Ryan] The Aerojet continues to deliver on length and distance. It is incredibly long. It is forgiving with that draw bias. I can get it up in the air. I’m not going to be working to get it done, but I’m going to get it to go high, and I’m going to get it to go far.

How is it for forgiveness? [Ryan] It has a longer head and a deeper face, so you will get more forgiveness than you would on a longer iron.

How is it for workability? [Ryan] Workability wasn't there for me. With the draw bias, I couldn’t really get it to the right. I was hooking it pretty well on several things. Just because of the draw bias, it looks like you’ll hook it. You get that in your head and then end up hooking the heck out of it.

How is its launch? [Ryan] Launch is very, very high. It does deliver on that. It has a 12-gram weight, which is a pretty heavy weight for the smallness of this head. They’re putting 12-gram weights in the 3-woods and the drivers, so there was a significant amount of launch there.

What do you find unique about its appearance? [Ryan] It's pretty long. It carries the traditional look of the Aerojet all the way through. It also has a one-length version, which you can compare with the one-length iron that has a lot more black than white.

What may make a player shy away from it? [Ryan] Players who like to hit long irons. If you are a workable iron player and want to play workable irons and can do that, this is not for you. If you don’t want something to appear draw biased at the address, and if you don’t like that deep, high face or elongated look, you’ll also shy away from this, which is too bad because this can be a pretty good club. I wish they would have made it in more models like they did the driver and the woods.

Does this club swing light or heavy to you? [Ryan] It swings well to me. I don't really feel it is too light or too heavy. This 12-gram weight really does get some launch to it.

Is the club adjustable? [Ryan] IIt’s not adjustable, but it does come in several different lofts. You can get it in two, three, four, five, and six lofts, from light to senior flex all the way to extra stiff.

Are there any drawbacks to this club? [Ryan] It’s draw biased, so if that’s not what you use and that’s not the help you need, you won’t do it. That’s the biggest thing. If you don’t want it to launch super high, if you’re more of a lower-launch guy, although hybrids will launch higher than irons, they will launch higher. They’re going to land softer than a 3-iron or 4-iron. That’s just what they’re designed to do. They’re easier to hit on different lies. All those things will stay tried and true for a hybrid over a longer iron.

Recommendations

Who would you recommend this club to? [Ryan] I recommend this club to someone struggling to hit the longer irons. It does seem more like a game-improvement club to me, even the standard model, so if you are struggling to hit those 5-, 4-irons, even if you have a 3 but you need to switch out, or if you slice with the irons and are really struggling to get those irons up in the air, landing soft, and holding greens, this is definitely something to check out.

Who should avoid this club, and what type of club would be a better option for that player? [Ryan] I’m a big fan of hybrids. I used a 3 hybrid myself and replaced a 3 iron a couple of years ago, so even as a lower handicap player, I’m a fan of the hybrid. Just I would avoid this one if you are a lower-handicap player. Most of us don’t want a draw-hooking hybrid. That is what this tends to be, in my estimation. You’ll want something more like the Paradigm from Callaway, which has a much more neutral, bias look. The TSR3, the Stealth Plus, all those are going to have more of a neutral-to-fade bias and look better down the line to the eye to me than the Cobra Aerojet, unfortunately.

Golf clubs work differently for different types of golfers. If you are wondering whether the Aerojet Hybrid is the right club for you, chat with Ryan or any other Golf Experts here on Curated, and they’ll put together free, personalized club recommendations on the best club for your needs.
