The Curated Take

4.5/5

The Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 130 Ski Boots are excellent for the versatile skier who divides their time between backcountry and resort skiing. They shine with their responsive design that doesn't compromise on performance despite being lightweight. Suitable for those with narrow feet, they provide reliable stiffness—though slightly softer than advertised—and a secure heel hold. A comfortable walk mode enhances their usability across conditions. While durable, users should be cautious of non-replaceable soles and check for loose bolts with heavy use. This boot is ideal for skiers prioritizing a snug fit and all-terrain adaptability.

Ideal for
  • A great touring boot that holds its own in resort conditions
  • Walk and ski mode is very comfortable once the boot is fit right
  • Reliable stiffness
Not ideal for
  • No replaceable sole
  • Slightly softer flex than the marketed 130
  • Watch out for potentially loose bolts after hard use

Expert Reviews of the Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 130 Ski Boots

Soren Feola I have been skiing on this boot for a year now and love it. I changed from the 120 to the 130 flex because the 120 was somewhat too soft. The change was great. This boot is very responsive in all conditions. It can do it all if someone takes it down East Coast bumps or big West Coast backcountry lines. While the boot is on the lighter side, this does not impact the performance at all. Atomic has done a great job making a boot that lives up to its marketing. If someone is looking for a one-boot quiver with relatively narrow feet, this line of boots is ideal for them. I have never felt this boot lacking over the last year, putting it through heavy use. If these boots were to break on me, nothing would stop me from repurchasing them in a heartbeat.

Review Ratings

Claimed Stiffness Accuracy

4/5
Soren Feola gave 4 of 5 stars. Overall, the stiffness is softer than other 130 flex boots. I'm not sure what causes it exactly, but I can only assume it’s the lightweight material that Atomic used. Compared to other 50/50 boots, I feel like for the weight, the flex is great. Some other boots in this category are heavier and stiffer, which makes sense.

Heel Hold

5/5
Soren Feola gave 5 of 5 stars. I never feel like my heel slips. Hiking uphill and skiing downhill, I never worry about heel slippage. I always feel super secure, yet never too tight. Sometimes, sweaty feet cause a little slippage, but it may just be my socks.

Weight

5/5
Soren Feola gave 5 of 5 stars. These boots are lightweight yet very durable. When climbing uphill, the boot is not too heavy. Whether boot packing or on the skin track, they feel great. In the resort, the boots don't feel like they are lacking because they are lightweight. I like lighter boots, and they work excellently in both conditions.

Waterproofing

5/5
Soren Feola gave 5 of 5 stars. Honestly, I don’t overthink about waterproofing in my ski boots. I rarely find myself submerging the boot in water. Since having them, I have never felt like water has gotten into my boots unless snow has melted down the cuff.

Durability

4/5
Soren Feola gave 4 of 5 stars. Over the 1.5 years I have worn these boots, the biggest wear has been the tech pin holes and the lower cuffs around the ankle joint. There is no way to replace the sole with this boot type, which is a bummer.

Walk Mode

4/5
Soren Feola gave 4 of 5 stars. While the range of motion isn’t the most, for the 50/50 boot, it does a great job. Whether I walk around the lodge or skin up a mountainside, I feel very comfortable in my walking gait.

Responsiveness

5/5
Soren Feola gave 5 of 5 stars. I don't feel like I explode out the front of the boot or don't have the control I need. When I put the force into a turn, I can rely on that force being put into the ski as well. Quick turns or straight lines always feel good in these boots.

Versatility

4/5
Soren Feola gave 4 of 5 stars. I have taken these boots into every condition imaginable. I have skied them on the blue ice fields of Vermont, the deep Wasatch powder, and the rails of the terrain park. They have not held me back. I love relying on one boot for touring and resort skiing.

FAQs

What do you love about this product?

Soren Feola I love the versatility of these boots. I spend a lot of my time split between backcountry skiing and resort skiing. For the past two years, I have used these boots and the 120 flex version and have found both to be the best boots I have ever had. The lightweight shell does not impede downhill performance for me in any way. I feel like the flex is true, and I can adequately put the power I need down into my skis. Even on the hike up, while these boots are heavier than standard touring boots, I do not mind it. They are very comfortable on the uphill, and I have never gotten a blister from them. After a good fit process, these boots fit very well. Overall, they are my favorite boots.

Why did you choose this product?

Soren Feola I chose this product solely based on my foot measurements initially. After reveling in a ton of research about boot sizes and fit guides, I picked these boots. This is my second pair now, and if these ever break, I will 100% be buying the same boot, just newer.
